Controller doesn't work

I can turn my xbox on with all my controlers but when the home screen appears my controllers don't work other than to go to turn off screen but can't do anything. I've changed batteries, resync, and plugged it into the console to check if it needs updating but still doesn't work

You mean that after you turn on the Xbox console, you are on the Xbox home page. At this time, except for pressing the Xbox key, no other keys respond?

How did you update the Xbox controller on the Xbox console?

If you have a keyboard and mouse, plug them in and see if the Xbox is still within the control range.

And you can also test it on the PC to see if it works properly on the PC.

Do you know the make and model of the 3rd party controller? It may not be compatible with the technology but can't confirm until I know more about it.
