Controller disconnects even when attached with USB.

Hi Guys,

Over the past few weeks I've run into an issue where my Xbox One controller randomly connects and then disconnects from my console. I've tried new batteries, full play and charge battery kits, and plugging it in using a micro usb cable yet still continuously
cycle through reconnects. I've also tried different usb slots, full power cycles and multiple games with no solution. At times the controller stops flashing and I assume seems to think it is connected to the console but input does nothing.

This has made it impossible for me to play anything on the machine as the disconnects are absolutely infuriating.

This is a new Halo 5 1tb Console and I had no issues until what seems to be around when the new Xbox Dashboard was released. Since then it's been near impossible to play anything.

Tomorrow I intend to take my controller to another machine and see if I run into the same issue, if not, I will take my console and attach it to a different controller to see if its a specific piece of the hardware causing the problem and update.

If anyone can think of anything that may aid me in finding a solution it would be much appreciated, otherwise I believe I may have to return my console and request a refund.

I also noticed that the controller loses connection when it is connected via USB cable attached to a USB charger. It is only working fine when it is connected to the Xbox via USB cable and has no batteries inside of it. This happens with all three controllers
I own. I'm still unable to resolve this

 

Sounds like you are on the right track. Hopefully, you will narrow it down to what specifically is causing the problem. Post back and let us know the results.

I have been plagued by controller disconnecting issues since day one.. and have learned that the xbox is super picky when it comes to usb cables

With mine they would never let me update the firmware .. untill i had the right cable (which wasnt an MS provided cable fwiw)

Try a couple out and you will find one that works (is my bet)

 

I have the same issue. Both wired and wireless controller disconnects with a 1TB XBOX one, started when the console was 2 1/2 months old. Sent it in for repair, came back with same issue. I have tried multiple new controllers, 5 different USB cables,
etc. Its a fundamental issue with some XBOX ones is my opinion. Perhaps the wireless logic is hanging off the USB internally, and the issue is not with the wireless or the usb cables or the controller, but with the USB hub inside the xbox one (on the motherboard).
Dunno. I like the original poster tried everything. Going to use the advanced repair next. After that? PS4, no sh*t. Controller issues are infuriating.

 

Yeah, did some research, the chipset in the wireless board uses USB 2.0 to connect the wireless to the host CPU. What this means is that the motherboard has USB logic common to both the wireless card, and of course for cabling your controller directly.
Since both of these ways of connecting controllers run into the same problem, it seems to implicate the motherboard logic (that has the USB hub). "ifixit" has a breakdown of the logic used on the wireless card, one of the chips is "Marvell Avastar 88W8782
WLAN SoC" which has USB2.0 for a host CPU interface.

I eventually ended up taking the machine in for a replacement as even wired controllers weren't connecting. New console is running fine so far but is only a week old, so we'll see how it goes.
