Controller Cuts Out Headset/Headphone Audio, Because of Certain In-Game Sounds

Whenever I play a game with a headset, or headphones on and certain sounds occur in-game, the audio will cut out for about half a second,
    every single time.

This is a problem with the controller I have. I know this because I tested my headphones, as well as my headset together,
with and without the Stereo Adapter plugged in the controller.

Is there any way od getting rid of this issue? Or is it best to get a new controller? It's incredibly annoying! >_<

    :)

Game audio is never great to begin with, and with any wireless sound transmission, and anything other than hdmi, the sound will degrade. (Including optical audio). Wireless audio will not sound nearly as good as wired audio, and even that varies greatly. Wireless audio includes headsets that are wired to the controller, as there is some level of compression and therefore loss, in all but the highest quality (therefore expensive) wireless headphones. (Eg sennheiser rs series). I also guarantee, no gaming headset would use this technology, as it is somewhat impractical, and expensive, and gaming headsets are already overpriced, and have very poor audio when compared to good headphones in the same price bracket. So if audio is important to you, don't even buy a gaming headset, make your own out of a good pair of headphones.

Almost any pair of headphones or earbuds, when plugged into the controller (via the controller's built-in headphone jack or stereo adapter), should play game audio.

If you don't hear anything, have you checked the headset volume in the Xbox guide menu on the side? When plugged in, double-tap the Guide button and scroll down to the "Settings" icon. You should see some volume sliders. "Headset volume" is game audio.

In some rarer circumstances, certain headphones and headsets will simply not work depending on the headphone jack standard they use.

    Hi there,

Thank you for reaching out to us with this issue. Headset issues can be real hard to pinpoint but it looks like you've started to try. Can you tell us if you've tried another controller with your headset? We also recommend resyncing your controller to your
console, this can sometimes help with these types of issues. Thank you.

    Headphones not working on xbox

Check your console's audio settings and be sure that it's set to put out audio through the headphones. It sounds like it's a console-wide/account setting or a error, not an issue with the controller or the headset.

Audio on both Headset and TV Speakers

    Hi,

As some of the Ambassadors have mentioned already, the Xbox does not cut audio to the TV when a headset is connected to the controller. To stop audio from your tv simply mute the tv or go into your tv's settings (if its a smart tv) and change the audio out
from TV to Headphones. That way you won't be disturbing anyone with the sound coming out of your TV if you forget to mute it. Hope this suggestion helps :)

    Happy Gaming!

Xbox One X - After update my controller dosen't detect any headset I plug in and there is no sound.

    Hi there,

What is the specific headset you are plugging into the adapter?

Headset's, headphones, or earbuds with stereo sound will have the ability to have game audio along with chat volume that is adjusted with the adapter or in the "Audio" settings that will only appear when plugging into the 3.5mm port which you have confirmed
was the issue with the original controller.

There are some headsets however that do not have stereo sound and are strictly only meant to chat with others, and are usually referred to as chat headsets. These tend to only have one earpiece whereas stereo headsets will have two.

If you have a stereo headset/headphones plugged into the adapter, then the chat mixer slider that is usually found in the "Audio" settings will be controlled on the adapter with the game controller icon button indicating the game audio volume and the button
with the icon of a person indicates the chat audio volume.

    Headphones not working?

As the page that XBF Javier R linked to explains, the console can't know if you use the headset for chat only or for game sound as well, and will not mute the TV sound output.

If you don't get game audio from your headset, but chat sound is working, then go to the settings, and under "Display & Sound" enable game sound through your headphone.

Unless you have bought the Dolby Atmos for Headphones app (and not only the free trial app), you should use Stereo or Windows Sonic to get game sound from your headphones.

If neither game sound nor chat sound is coming from the headset, try the headset on a different controller, or try different headphones on your controller (e.g. earplugs that came with your smartphone or something like that).
