Controller connected but system not acknowledging commands

So weird thing happened today.

Started up my xbox one with my controller and the system started up (it took longer than usual and the kept going back and forth before finally settling and acting normal) and my controller is on and connected but the system isn't taking the commands. No
buttons, sticks, guide button etc. System is on and not frozen (the ads are cycling on the home screen) but nothing from the controller.

I rebooted the system, re connected the controllers (the little black button on the controller and the button on the side of the xbox one), tried 2 different controllers, still no luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wired controller won't work

My Xbox One controller is "connected" with white light, but won't work. None of the command keys work. Is it a "bad" controller?

Xbox one will not take commands from controller or kinect

After trying to update my avatar everything froze. I restarted the system and now I can't get it to do anything, it just sits there waiting for a command. When I put in a game it loads it up but then does nothing. The controller is connected and so is
the kinect but niether does anything, it's like it's not receiving any of the data.

Happy your controller solved its issues.

Remember, you can always connect a micro usb cable to your Xbox, in order to achieve connectivity. Along with pushing any updates to them that they require.

Having same problem with controllers. Able to move throughout the home screen, but the buttons are not acknowledged. Have to use my Kinect commands just to get to use my cable tv!

I'm having the same issue. By any chance do you power the Xbox on with an IR remote? Mine is connected to a home automation system and I regularly turn it on and of via IR. I find when I power it on then connect the controller to play a game, when I shut
it off the controller doesn't power off. This causes the Xbox to immediately power back on. If this happens my controller seems connected (solid light) but cannot control the system. Even if I rebind the controller to the system, I still have no control until
I reboot it through the settings menu (I have to use IR commands to navigate the menu).

I have a Vizio soundbar connected to my TV. I ran the Audio Receiver Setup on the Xbox One and now the X1 powers on/off the soundbar along with my entire TV/DVR system.

As for volume control, if you've ran the Audio Receiver Setup then you can control the Soundbar via either voice commands or the Xbox One Smartglass App (the volume controls on Smartglass will no longer control the TV volume, however, as they'll become dedicated
to the soundbar--I presume the same may be me true for voice commands).
