  1. Controller can't turn on Xbox One console!

As the title describes, I leave the XB1 turned off overnight and when I finally wake up at 3:00pm in the afternoon, the controller just flashes. This problem has been happening more and more frequently this month. It must be turned on manually at the console,
so now I have to move my body and do things. I shouldn't have to do that, Bill Gates put trillions of earth dollars into R&D so I can be wirelessly lazy.

    Here's what's good to know:

    • XB1 is set to "Instant On"
    • Console is less than 8 feet away from controller, and in
      line of sight.
    • When the console has finally turned on, the controller can connect now without a problem.
    • Xbox One warranty has conveniently expireda month or two ago. Just in time!
      • Please don't suggest I take it to Xbox Support for "repair". That obligatory post never helps.
    • I'm using the revised Xbox One controller with the 3.5mm port.
    • XB1 is connected on a 5.0GHz wi-fi network.
      • 100% wireless strength.
      • 0% packet loss.
      • 45 ms latency.
    • The router is in another room, but not far.
    • Both the console and controller are updated to the latest firmware.
Here's what I did, and so far these things haven't fixed the problem:

    • Hard reset of both controller and console. Hold the power button for umpteen seconds, the whole deal etc...
      temporary fix.
    • Re-synced controller to console with the little buttons. No dice.
    • Replaced the batteries in controller with fresh ones (fancy expensive Duracells, even).
      Nope.
    • Replaced the controller! Same issue. Now I have two controllers.
    • Stomped, cried, and screamed bad words at the Xbox. Usually that works out, but not today.
How does the controller even connect with the console? Like, what wireless band? I'll line my walls with faraday caging if I have to. I've noticed that the Xbox 360 has a stronger, more solid controller signal than the Xbox One if that's any clue to... whatever.

Things are always broken and my life is in shambles. Please help.

    :)

Controller can't turn on Xbox One console!

    Hey there Internet Expert.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble and thank you for the breakdown of what you've attempted so far. Just to check, do you have any USB devices plugged into your Xbox One? If so can you try removing those and attempt powering your console on with the controller
    without it plugged in?

Let us know what's up so we can continue helping out.

Mine does the same thing. I do have a external 2tb official seagate hardrive but i think my console has always done this if put on instant on. When on energy saving mode the controller always starts the console up. when in instant on mode if i have to turn
the system on with the console botton and the rest of the day i can use the remote to turn off and on but the remote stops working the next day to start up the system. Get this the controller does not turn the system on but the media remote can so it has something
to do with the signal of the controller and i also have two controllers that were updated. Its like the console goes into a deep sleep and the controller cant wake it up

    Super odd WiiUrules!

If you plug your controller in via USB is there any change with it's ability to power your console on?

  7. Hi, when was the last time you updated the firmware of your controllers? If you have not already done this connect your controller via a micro USB cable, go to settings, kinect and devices, devices and accessories, select your controller, and finally select
    update. Hopefully this helps!

Controller can't turn on Xbox One console!

My elite controller is up to date and thats the one I have been using. If i plug my controller in by usb the system will turn on just like if i was to touch the xbox one logo on the system. really anoying this is. What would cause my system to go into such
a deep sleep in instant on that my controller wont wake the system up. If i turn the system on by hand in the morning i can use the controller all day but when i dont use the console four like 12 hours then the controller wont wake the system up. On energy
saving mode the controller can wake the system up every time but boot times are to long. I like instant on. Just want the controller to always work to turn it on.

The reason why the Troubleshooting Guide for XB1 controllers doesn't work most times is because a very important step is missing.

The controllers themselves are wireless, and in order to reassign or update them this requires you to have a USB cable - HOWEVER, this MUST be done whilst no batteries/battery pack are attached. The reason for this is, when on, the controllers are constatly
trying to connect wirelessly, which disables connecting them with the cable... as a result, you're shooting yourself in the foot trying to fix them.

Microsoft really should update their guides to reflect this.

    Controller Issues

My wireless xbox controller will turn my xbox console (xbox one s) on, but will not operate the console after it is on. This started as I was playing and walked away from the xbox console with the controller in my hand. I cannot get the controller to connect to, or control, the xbox either wirelessly or with a USB-C cable attached. Also, this controller will not turn the console off. This controller may be 8-12 weeks old. I have a second controller that will turn on, operate and turn off the console, but it will not hold the horizontal so I can't use it. (This is at least the 3rd or 4th controller I've had to buy.)

    Thanks for any help.

    XBOX-ONE Kiosk Controllers

There are no good alternatives unfortunatelly.

    These are anti theft.

I also tried hard wired 3rd party controllers, they work fine BUT you can't turn on/off the console with these controllers.

And this is needed, as the xbox-one console is in a closed drawer at the bottom of the kiosk.

    Connecting headset

The headset should work on an Xbox One controller and Xbox Series S/X controllers.

Turn off the controller by holding the Xbox button on the controller until the controller turns off and unplug the headset.

On your console press and hold the Xbox console button until the console turns off, remove the power cord from the console, and wait 1 minute.

Plug the power cord into your console again, turn on the console with your controller, and when you see your console's dashboard connect the headset to the controller and see if that solves the problem.

    Controller volume problems

    1. Examine the headset, the cord, and the connector for visible defects.
    2. Make sure that no dirt or debris is on the headset connector. To clean the connector, use a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol.
    3. Verify that your Xbox One controller operates correctly, and that you can use the controller to turn on and turn off the console. For help troubleshooting Xbox One controller issues, see Xbox
One Wireless Controller disconnects or can't connect
      .
    4. Firmly insert the Xbox One Chat Headset connector into the expansion port under the directional pad (D-pad) and the right stick on the controller
