controller buttons triggering other inputs ?

I've recently been playing HI-fi rush on PC with a series S controller and am enjoying it a lot but for some reason certain inputs trigger ones that shouldn't, my right joystick when pressed triggers a dodge despite dodge being on right bumper. I just unlocked the companion feature and now whenever I dodge (right bumper) it summons my companion despite that being on the right trigger. I've checked over and over again and the control scheme seems fine, I even changed the input to summon companions to the left stick press and it still summons them when I press right bumper. From what i can tell this only happens in HI-FI rush but have yet to test it since finding out.

It sounds like there may be a problem with the controller mapping in the game. Some games have the ability to customize controller inputs, so you may want to check the game's settings to see if there is an option to adjust the button mapping. Great question!

The controller needs to recognize direct input to stay on, leaving the button pressed under a piece of tape, as an example would not qualify as input therefore triggering the battery saving function of the controller.

I found the controller is inputting both controller inputs, and keyboard inputs. So by pressing A to jump, Minecraft recognizes both the press of A on the controller and either Tab or Return, as for me both were mapped on my keyboard. By binding jump to a different keyboard key, I was able to open chat again. Same for crouch and other double mapped buttons.

I would like to know how to change the sensitivity of the triggers, as my controller left trigger places multiple blocks very rapidly when I only want to place one.

The triggers are analogue inputs instead of buttons.

While buttons can only send information about being on or off, the analogue triggers have a lot of values between a certain range.

Since a lot of games require more than just "on/off" information (for example in a racing game, the triggers act as throttle and braking pedal), you can't usually map these triggers to buttons.

Otherwise your only option in a driving game would be "no braking / emergency braking" and "no gas / full throttle".

If you need a different input scheme because you have special needs (e.g. a disability), you might try the

Xbox Adaptive Controller, which you can customize by connecting various input devices to the ports of the controller.

I'm sorry to hear that didn't work.

Have you verified that your controller is not registering input from other buttons such as its triggers? that could be why it's scrolling down. You can do this by entering the controller's test mode at Settings > Devices & connections > Accessories > then click on the lab icon that's right next to the [...] button.

This should let you know if your controller is registering input from one of its buttons due to a hardware malfunction.
