Controller bugging out

Recently, my controller's right stick hasn't been working right. It's always going down. For example, if I leave the controller alone in Destiny, my character will look straight down to the ground. This is becoming very tedious in some games. Is there a
way to fix this or do I have to buy a new controller?

How do you turn off the controller correctly? i usually take out the battery pack but it keeps bugging me saying "reconnect controller"

Have you cleared the system cache? If not, I'd start by clearing the system cache (it's just temporary files plus game updates, automatically reloaded) by:

1) Tap the silver Xbox Guide button on the controller, go 2 clicks right to Settings, pick System Settings.

2) Select Storage (or Memory if Storage).

3) Move over any hard drive or memory unit (not the Cloud) & press (Y) on your controller & pick Clear System Cache.

4) When asked to confirm storage device maintenance, choose Yes.



If that does not permanently resolve the problem, then I would find a USB Flash Drive (and the better ones have the speed shown on the back of the package)

redownload your profile to the 'Memory Unit', install the game which uses the avatars download those avatars to see if the problem persists.



I'm testing for a defective hard drive here; and, even though Microsoft does their best to pick good hard drives, every mechanical device will fail sooner or later, and this will confirm the hard drive
is the source of the trouble or not.

 

You could take it apart and try cleaning it. But, I don't recommend this as you could damage the controller more. I suggest you get a new controller from your local store or online.
