    Controller bricked after firmware update

I've just attempted to update the firmware on my Xbox One controller through the Win10 Xbox Accessories app.

This failed partway through, and asked me to disconnect and reconnect the controller.

Now the controller will not power back on. I've found other people online stating that leaving the controller plugged in USB with n batteries can allow it to restore itself, but I've had no joy.

I've tried using the online Accessories support service, but I am unable to register the controller on it's lonesome. I do not have an Xbox One, nor do I know anyone with one.

I've tried webchat, but this fails as the connection drops immediately each time I initialise a chat.

I'm really at my wits end. What can I do?

    :)

    Bricked controller

So my Xbox one controller was not syncing wirelessly and so when I plugged it in via usb, it prompted me to do an update. I started the firmware update for the controller but it failed at 46%. Now my controller is completely bricked. It just keeps flashing
but doesn't connect in any way. I have tried everything but it just won't sync.

  3. Xbox One Wireless Controller bricked after Failed Firmware Update

    Dear Support Team,

I decided to contact you regarding the issues I have with recently bought Xbox One Wireless Controller Plug & Charge Kit along with Xbox Wireless
Adapter designed to work with Windows 10 ver. 1607. I have chosen the device purchased after I noticed that my old nearly 5 years old Xbox 360 Wired Controller refused to work with my Lenovo Y50 laptop.

Before I even start let me explain that I consider myself a decent PC user with a good knowledge of updating most of the software, including drivers,
still well able to maintain various actions regarding the smooth performance of my workstation. Sorry to say then but with the update of your Xbox One Controller I found myself in a black hole so to speak like I would never imagined to be after using your
previous product for a good time.

Only yesterday I plugged in my new device to allow Windows 10 to find the essential drivers and give it a go. At that time I didn't even bother
to use Wireless Adapter, I just wanted to know how it works with the cable plugged in. It did work well by the time I launched for a moment your newly released Forza Horizon. But since I noticed that I was lacking the vibration on the controller, I followed
the information you have provided on your support page and I downloaded the Xbox Accesories App in order to let it run as smoothly as possible. As expected, I was promted to update the firmware and let it download itself. While having done so I've realised
the Xbox One Controller icon dissapeared from the notification area and the Xbox Accesorries App shut down. I thought It simply needed the reboot so I proceed with the restart. However after plugging the controller back and launching the Accessories App, the
controller couldn't been found even if it was plugged in, charging & both lights were switched on.

Thinking that it might be the issue with the wireless option, I decided to unpack the adapter and I tried to bind it with the controller. Again
following your support I let the lights become solild on both devices, but sadly it didn't change a thing and the controller remained unresponsive as it was before.

Then I started to proceed with various actions that should have worked but by the end of the day they didn't unfortunatelly. I tried to update
the drivers through the Devices window but was prompted with the answer the newest ones are already installed. I tried to roll back to different version of the drivers, downloaded the ones listed on Microsoft Catalog online for the 64-bit system version, but
still I was unable to get the controller to work properly. I googled the issue and found out one thread that Accessories App might cause the controller to soft-brick and I do believe that happened to me. I tried to look for solution to the problem but couldn't
find any. As you can imagine that made me quite upset because of the expenses I made worth nearly 100 euro.

My question is would you be able to provide me with basic software needed to run Xbox One
Wireless Controller so I could perform the factory reset? Sadly to say this I do not have the Xbox One Console at my disposal to let it update or back to the factory setting alone. I've read some threads
and it looks like it wasn't only me having this problem with the device that is supposed to running extremelly well with any PC with Windows 10 Anniversary Update.

It would be most welcome if you could provide me with any solution. I don't really have to contact the support but with this one I hardly see
    any other option.

Just to let you know the driver registered under my Xbox Controller port is dated from 16th July 2016. I find it rather strange though that my
Xbox Wireless Adapter is described as above while my Xbox One Wireless Controller is only known as Xbox Peripherals.

If you need to know more about the issue, please let me know.

  4. Controller bricked after firmware update

Take it to Gamestop, and have them plug it into an Xbox One. Support suggested that to me, and it worked.

  5. Same here, update didn't complete and controller is stuck in DFU mode. I've been on a support chat loop between the Xbox and Windows teams for about 2 hours now. The first Xbox support rep said it's a known issue and that's there's a fix, but by *** it's
impossible to make any headway in acquiring this mystical hotfix... Sheesh!

  6. Well that was useless and a waste of time. As I said, Xbox rep #1 told me this is a known issues and there's a fix. He told me to talk to Windows support to get it. I talk to them, they forward me back to the Xbox team. Xbox rep #2 is still clueless as to
this supposed issue, much less the original promised hotfix, and asked me to.

So 2 hours wasted, I'm just going to try and find someone with an Xbox One and let it it restore the controller and get it out of DFU mode.

An upcoming update to the accessories app will enable continuing update for a controller left in DFU mode. I will post a message here once available, for those unable to update.

  9. I'd like to bump HardRetro's question. I mean, it's been nearly 2 weeks without a functioning controller for me. Some timely fixes for a known major problem would be nice. I've been biding my time with some KB/Mouse-oriented games, but the point remains.

Xbox Accessories app (Version 100.1512.2007) has been released to the Store. Please check if an update is available for your machine.

This version contains a fix to allow users to finish firmware update on a Xbox One controller that enters a bad state during regular firmware update (DFU Mode).

Actually saw this yesterday as I've been checking for the update after work each night. New app has resolved the issue and controller is working fine.
