Controller/adapter/headsets do not work

We've got two consoles in the house, three controllers, and three headsets as well (one is turtle beach xo). Between all of these devices there is no combination or series of asinine steps that will allow chat to be used on either of the consoles. I have
fought my way through the support pages only to be offered the opportunity to buy replacements for these defective products at full retail price. I've been on live for years and have always enjoyed using xbox, but this in no way should be this difficult.

Stereo headset adapter issue

Brand new headset and stereo adapter will not work. Initially you could hear with headset but mic would not work. Now nothing. The mute button will not turn off. Tried hard reset on xbox one. Tried updating firmware. It says no update, controller up
to date. Tried taking batteries out of controller and reinstalling. Tried reinstalling stereo adapter and headset connection numerous times. Tried plugging headset directly into controller with no stereo adapter. Nothing still. Old turtle beach headset
plugged directly into controller works fine. This is a brand new headset and adapter right out of the box. Unbelievable.

Xbox one will not power with updated controller with MS Stereo headset plugged in

Xbox one will not power with updated controller with MS Stereo headset plugged in. Once I disconnect MS Stereo headset and adapter it powers on syncs just fine. Then I plug in the headset and adapter everything works. But if i power off controller or xbox
one it won't sync with the headset and adapter plugged in. Ive updated controller. It works fine with old chat headset. It works fine plugged in usb.

I'm just curious, what exactly is the issue? Is it both outgoing and incoming chat that done work? Just incoming? Just outgoing? Have you made sure that you assigned a profile to a controller before attempting to use voice chat?

If it is not the update- make sure your NAT is open. When the NAT is closed, you cannot access voice chat or multiplayer and may not be able to access correctly. My solution to my NAT was factory resetting my console. (You can check NAT on the Network Settings.)

Thanks for the replies, and I feel like I really have tried everything and can only assume that the problems I'm having are related to the connection type/adapter needed for the headsets.

The NAT is open, I ran the update on all of my controllers and reset the console afterwards - I use the energy saver setting on my boxes so each one is a full reset. I tried the XO One headset plugged into my phone to ensure that the mic and headset work,
so I know that's fine.

On the xbox, using the XO One for reference here, game audio comes through the headset but chat neither comes in or out. I even went into Upload Studio to attempt to record a voice over just to test that audio was going in, but it was not. I was really
just at my wits end the other night after running through the gamut of solution recommendations and having no reasonable service options available.

Sorry to hear it. The headset should work when the Kinect is attached. What brand of headset are you using and do you have the adapter for the controller?

Have you updated your controller with the adapter attached? If not, you should do that in the Settings menu.

Have you tried updating your Headset Adapter ? To do so, look at this :

When you say it's not working, you mean that you can't hear anything ? Have your tried your headset with another device ?

If your Stereo Headset Adapter isn’t functioning well, check the following:

Have you updated your controller’s software to support the Stereo Headset Adapter?

Make sure your controller has fresh batteries. When the batteries get weak, some controller functions like audio and rumble get turned off to conserve the remaining power.

Make sure your headset adapter is firmly plugged into your controller and that your stereo headset’s 3.5-mm cable is securely plugged into the headset adapter. You will know it’s plugged in properly if you press the mute button and the LED lights up.
If the mute light comes on and you have updated your controller but your headset isn’t working, consult the manual or manufacturer.

Try your Stereo Headset Adapter on another controller if you can. If the adapter works on the second controller, try updating the first controller again. If that fails, the controller will need to be replaced. To order a replacement, go to the Xbox Online
Service Center.

I have the same issue. I updated the controller before I had the headset adapter, now when I plug in the headset adapter, I get prompted to update and it fails. However, I had a friend bring his working headset adapter over and it works fine with my controller.
Could it be that the adapter itself needs to be updated as part of the controller update?

Are you using a third party controller? If not, you may require a headset adapter (as stated above). Xbox controllers have a unique input jack size that work with Xbox headsets or require an adapter to work with third party headsets.
