Continue downloading after turning console off?

I recently bought Thief of the marketplace and started too download it, I then told my Xbox to turn off, however my router showed nothing was happening, as if the Xbox was no longer downloading anything, I ended up leaving my Xbox one on all night to get
Thief.

My question is, can the Xbox One continue downloading after I turn the Xbox One off? Should I have just left the Xbox alone and it would eventually continue downloading the game?

For your info I have the console set to "instant on mode"

Issues with downloading Fable 3

I am having issues with downloading Fable 3 after I have successfully purchased it in June. My console turned off and on after it started downloading the game.

It could only be stopped turning off and on after i removed it from the download queue on xbox website.

 

Xbox 360 won't download when console is turned off

Just to clarify the problem is I can't continue downloading a game when I turn off the console like I could in the past. I have background downloads enabled but the console just turns off after about 15 seconds and doesn't continue downloading the game.

Please help me sort this out.

Instant on allows you to download ..So the answer to your question is ,yes,it will download

 

Yes if you select instant on and have started a download you may turn the xbox off and it will continue the download in low power mode. I've done it a few times. Hopefully soon you may purchase remotely and the download starts without having to go home and
turn the X1 on to start it.
