Content transfer

Hi, I got an Xbox Slim last night and I want to transfer the content from my old Xbox (external HDD) to the slim. I looked on-line and they showed that any of the official HDD transfer, whether new or old, will help with this issue. I followed the instruction
except, I don't the pop-up screen that tells me I can transfer. I went to the storage and it doesn't show the hooked up HDD. Any idea on how to proceed?

How to move multiple items at once

You can easily move multiple items between storage devices using the Transfer Content option. So, if you purchase a new console, you can move the contents of your old Xbox 360 console to the new one using the Transfer Content option and the Hard Drive Transfer Cable.

Notes:

During the content transfer, the Xbox Dashboard will be unavailable.

If any problem occurs during the transfer and the transfer is interrupted, the content will remain on the source storage device. You can start the transfer process again.

How to transfer multiple items

To transfer multiple from one storage device to another, follow the steps bellow:

From Xbox Home, you need to go to Settings to select System.

Press Storage.

You need to highlight the storage device containing the content that you want to transfer. Now press Y for Device Options.

Press Transfer Content.

You’ll have to select the destination storage device

You’ll also have to select the content type that you want to transfer.

Finally press Start to begin the transfer.

If the destination storage device doesn’t have sufficient space, the Space Available bar will appear red. Then you’ll have to reduce the amount of content you are transferring.

Here is how:

First you need to select content type

If you want to remove all items from the content type, press X

If you want to remove individual items, press A to view the items. Then select the item or items and press A again. You need to press B to return to the previous screen. Finally select Start to begin the transfer again.

Transfer data question.

Hi, to transfer content licences associated with your console you must sign in to the console with the profile used to purchase the content. Once signed in go to Settings > account > billing options and select licence transfer following the on screen instructions to transfer the licences to the new console so other profiles can use the content. Content can not be transfered across profiles only across consoles - hope this helps

If you're looking to transfer save games why not use the cloud? Reconnect the hard drive to the older console and move the saves to the cloud. You'll be able to access them on the new console.

From there you can simply redownload any DLC that you previously purchased from your download history. On the console go to System>Accounts>Download History.

That'd be a lot of transfers using just cloud. If it's not showing properly, maybe you got a defective piece? Return it for another, make sure it's a certified MS piece. I've bought one many years ago and it works fine. Takes a few minutes to pop up sometimes,
but always worked.

I'd also go to System>Storage to see if anything shows up there if you haven't.

Something else to try is power the xbox off, remove the hard drive you're transferring the data from, connect the data transfer cable to the xbox and power on, once the xbox reaches the dashboard connect the hard drive you're transferring the data from to
the data transfer cable.

If you are asked at all to configure the hard drive do not proceed any further, third party cables will wipe all the data and make the drives useless as xbox hard drives.

It told me I need to configure the hard drive when I connect it.

I just ordered the new transfer cable. I'll see if that works.

The problem is that you're using an external drive. 3rd party drives are not supported and can fail to be read. The reason I'm suggesting you transfer the saves to the cloud using the older console is because the older console may still be able to read
the drive.

This is your only option as you cannot use a transfer cable to transfer data from an external 3rd party drive to an official drive.

There is no way to transfer content between accounts. However, you can access the content if you are using the same console that she purchases the content on.

License transfers are used to transfer console licenses between consoles, not accounts.

Ok but this what it says at the support site

"Transfer content licenses

You can transfer content licenses from one console to another once every four months.

If your console was recently repaired, or if you’ve purchased a new console, use the license transfer option on your console to transfer content licenses. Here’s how:

On your console, sign in to Xbox LIVE using the gamertag that you used to purchase the content.

Go to the Settings, and then select Account.

Go to Your Billing Options, and then select License Transfer.

Follow the on-screen instructions to transfer the content licenses.

After the licenses are transferred, you need to download the content again to update the local licenses. This way the content can be used by other profiles on your console and when you’re not connected to Xbox LIVE.

this last sentence says any profile can use the content as long as you did a " transfer content licenses' i did and license transfer and the DLC does not work

Spyroman - License transfers only move content between consoles. It does not transfer content between accounts.

I've seen the complaint about the Halo 4 content before but I'm not aware of a resolution at this time.

For the other content, have you performed a license transfer? Please note that this is different than just transferring the content although the content transfer is part of the license transfer process. You can do it from your console under Account Management.
