Rumours (yes, that's all they are at this point) are surfacing that the next game may possibly be titled MASS Effect: Contact

if you followed the team at bioware on twitter you`ll see whats what in the ME game

Yanick Roy and Aaryn Flynn give teasers out sometimes on Twitter on the new ME game but the name of the new ME game is still in the dark and they`ve only given it a temp name since they started making it so this Contact is possibly the project name and not
the actual games name but they are keeping their lips really tight on the game itself

 

Seems that BioWare have commented on this 'Contact' rumour attackofthefanboy.com/.../mass-effect-4-developer-shoots-rumors-fourth-game but
stop short of outright denying it. In my opinion, they've all but confirmed it to be the "working title", but whether or not it's in fact a 'First Contact War' scenario remains to be seen for the title 'Contact' could pertain to any number of storylines.
I find it hard to believe that this game has no title yet, if that were the case, why were they so adamant over a year ago on declaring that this game won't be called MASS Effect 4? They don't know what it's called, yet they know what it's NOT called?! It
would be most disappointing if we do not know anything more about the next game after E3 than we do now, I understand the need to keep things under wraps to prevent spoilers, or not wanting a game to become old before it's new but I think that the fans need
something to get excited about again, we've been kept in the dark long enough...

 

it`s upto them at Bioware to tell us what they want us to know and if they want to keep their lips tight it`s their choice so what you want to beleive in the rumors it`s your choice but as we say No News is Good Good News so it shows they are dedicated
on keeping their info under lock and key until such time

it`s not a prequel cos

1, it doesn`t have Shepard and Bioware confirmed it so that rules out contact war as the game is based AFTER Shepard as they`ve said

2, citadel Makeover new advanced alien races so everything must be fixed including the Relays if they`ve expanded further in the universe. these little facts got released months back so again not a Prequel

the trilogy would have to be fixed for this and more rewrites for ME1,2 and 3 would provide this info and I don`t think they`ed do that do you ???? so trilogy over New game new stuff Fresh start no Shepard no prequel and another hint was it`s based further
in the future after reaper attack now do you think they`ed say that if it was going to be a prequel ???

I will say this tho if E3 shows the ME game and proves me wrong I will admit I was wrong but until then I`m going with what I know and read so you believe what you want to believe ok

 

Care to provide some sources for this information that you're providing here? I do hope that you're correct and "it's not a prequel", but neither a sequel or prequel has been confirmed by anyone from BioWare to date. The ONLY confirmed information that
we have on the next game so far from BioWare is that it's running on the FrostBite engine and won't involve Commander Shepard, anything else is pure speculation on vague statements that could mean anything and are wide open to interpretation/misinterpretation,
I look forward to your confirmation links supporting this claim that it's "not a Prequel", that would be music to my ears for I'm much more interested in a sequel...

 

put it this way would you make a trilogy and then say you`ll make a prequel despite the hard work and effort done in the trilogy

the trilogy would have to be updated. ME1 will need an import to make sense then rewritten in parts which will then make ME2 and 3 rewritten and Bioware said they won`t do anymore to the trilogy so to me the term prequel and first contact war means NOTHING
as Contact might even mean Future Civilizations but I do know that Casey from Bioware has asked us fans if we want a Prequel or sequel but seeing as they are tight lipped we don`t know what it is

I could understand if Mass Effect was a a tv series e.g Star Trek Original ,TNG , DS9 , Voyager and then Enterprise and the prequel films adding to this or films like Star Wars but a game I can`t see it no I`m sorry but it don't make sense to me and as

did you ever think that this rumor was probably started by some lad who just wants to egg us all on for a cheap laugh but as I said if E3 shows the ME game and proves me wrong I will admit I was wrong but until then I am ignoring these rumors and keeping

I seriously doubt that the next ME game will be a prequel, @Arkham99. We already can read up on past events thanks to the novel Redemption (a Direct prequel to the first game) as well as comics. If you want to take 'Mass Effect : Contact'
to imply that it's going to be set during the FC war, then by all means do so.

However, I prefer to think of that title as a 'Contact' with a new aggressor and that the game will be set sometime after ME3. I've read all the many rumors etc since ME3 came out (links provided in earlier threads in this subforum...) like : only Wrex,
Grunt and/or Liara may appear due to the longevity of their races; that the player will be able to select a race for their character ala Dragon Age : Origins and others.

Honestly, like @Mr Meany said, wait til E3 this year as there will undoubtedly be more information revealed then. Until then, all we have is wild speculation with no hard proof.

 

As prequels go the only place they can go is the First Contact War. Before that humanity hasn't met an alien species. Problem is that as a war it was brief and not even considered a war by the turians.

A sequel is tied by the endings of Mass Effect 3. No matter what you think of their quality, the repercussions of the three endings are vastly different. You can't just hand-wave them away.

 

Unless BioWare take the time to create a Mass Effect version of Dragon Age Inquisition's 'Dragon Age Keep' (a more indepth version of Mass Effect 2's Genesis/Mass Effect 3's Genesis II) or w/e it's called... Where one will be able to tailor the events of
the original trilogy for a prequel for ME4 from one of the three endings (Don't see how a new game could continue from the 4th ending but w/e...)

It would mean that they'd have to put more work into the actual story to follow on from the decisions made... but as they are already doing that for Dragon Age Inquisition, it is possible.

I've bolded the remarks of the Original Post for those who've assumed here that I'm mortgaging my future on the next game being a prequel, I simply started a thread pondering the POSSIBILITIES of the next game being a prequel centering around the First Contact
War based on recent Twitter activity, I'll reiterate that we have no confirmation to date on whether the next game will be a prequel or not, it's 50/50 at this point for there's been no tipping the scale either way on BioWare's part. Both possibilities have
their problems for the developers to keep consistent with the first trilogy, I wouldn't put money on either possibility right now based on how little official information that we've had, I would not be surprised either way...

There's a couple of ways that they could indeed "hand-wave them away", and the most obvious would be to set the timeline so far into the future beyond the events of MASS Effect 3 that the first trilogy's storylines would be very heavily obscured by time,
such as "legends" are. The "Grandpa Ending" suggests that the story told all ready had happened a very long time ago. The events of the first trilogy put limitations on what the developers can do for either scenario (prequel/sequel), and regardless of which
direction they take it'll be most interesting how they work around these problems...
