Constantly getting "Sign in with controller" on first sign in attempt

    Nemesis,

Your suggestions have helped me narrow this down even further.

I started by disabling the kinect sign in on all accounts, this is annoying for me in general with 5 kids that run in and out of the room like Jim Carrey on an 8 ball of coke, all I see is hello, goodbye, hello, goodbye...

Once I did that, I removed all non local accounts from the 360, both free and gold. deleting just the profile and leaving items.

Then I went through any logins on the Xbox One that were giving me trouble and removed them one by one.

Got it to the point where I had 0 Live accounts on the 360, just local logins, and four cleanly working Live Free accounts on the One. Then I started re-downloading profiles that had given me trouble previously one by one. They all worked without any issue.

After several power cycles and attempts to generate errors that I frequently received before, I decided that it seems that the Xbox One is pretty much fixed.

Turned it off and went back to the 360, added just one account to the 360, my only Gold account, changed one feature on my avatar, hat I think, and save/exit. Bam, error. power up the Xbox One, can't log into that account on the Xbox One.

Remove the account from the 360, power cycle the One, the account goes back to proper function without re-downloading the profile.

Log in/out several times, reboot the One a few times, no errors.

With the Xbox One powered on and no users logged in, just at the home screen with the "Sign in" button lit up. I power up the 360, download the Gold profile again, edit the avatar, get the error and attempt to sign on to the Xbox One again, Error. Without
power cycling, remove the account from the 360 and try the One again and it logs in without error, it's been working fine ever since.

Basically, if my Gold profile exists on the 360 in any way, even if it's power off (that I can't figure out at all) it will prevent my One from logging in properly using the same profile.

When I remove the profile from the 360, the One works flawlessly.

I just went through this with one of the kids accounts which is a free Live account and it does the same process. If her profile exists on the 360, she can't login to the One. Once it's removed from the 360, logging into the One is no problem.

Glad I was able to narrow down your issue.

Just checking when you deleted the accounts from the Xbox 360 did you clear your cache on the Xbox 360 and power cycle the console. Might have missed this step in my previous post but this will clear any corrupt system files but leave everything else intact.

It might be an idea to also check to see if you have any corrupt saves/downloaded games/DLC. These will show up as a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark under storage.

How are both consoles connected to the internet? Wired or Wireless?

And just checking are all accounts on the Xbox 360 set to NOT sign in automatically?

Also have you checked that all accounts are up to date and verified on accounts page?

Hopefully WE can narrow down your issue or even stop it completely

What error codes are you getting with this issue?

I did not clear the cache on the 360, how do you do this?

I do not have any corrupt games in my library right now, everything appears to be a fully functioning install. I haven't launched all titles recently but none of them are showing any kind of error messages when scrolling through.

When the 360 was connected, none of the profiles were set to sign in automatically.

Currently the only profiles on my 360 are local offline only profiles and it is not connected to my network in any way.

I found that even with no profiles if it was connected to the network and a game purchased using my live account was started up, it interfered with my Xbox One connectivity.

Mostly the 360 is used by my kids to play Minecraft offline in sandbox mode so they really don't need any kind of network connectivity for what they do anyway but I did recently purchase a copy of Titanfall to play that I am currently unable to play which
    is frustrating.

Our entertainment room is setup with two TV's and we typically have a few friends over so a couple of people are playing Ghosts on the One split screen on Live and I would like to be able to get on the 360 and play Titanfall while they are doing that and
I am waiting for my turn in Ghosts, etc.

    At least that's the goal.

From what I understand about my Gold account, this should be allowed and capable using a 360 and One on the same network with the same internet connection.

Maybe I am mistaken about that.

I think the error code I was getting ended with 1E, I am at work right now and cannot verify but I can check next time I am at home and have time to get the 360 online and load a profile again.

With the 360 disconnected and no profile on it, I am no longer getting the messages.

Hi Ixll in answer to your questions

You are able to be online on both Xbox 360 and Xbox one at the same time.

To clear your Xbox 360 cache go to System - Storage - highlight your harddrive and press Y this will bring up a list and you can then clear your cache.

Unfortunately I am now at a lose as to the cause of this error as I have had it repeat itself yesterday, only once but I did think it was sorted. So I'm starting to get the feeling it is an error on Xboxlive side not console side.

It does sound like the error code you get is similar to mine. But have been unable to find out what it actually means on Xbox, but did find a google article saying it appears when there is server issues. But unfortunately I can't confirm this myself.

I have not 100% verified it yet but I may have worked out the problem. It seems the errors I have been getting are basically general communication problem errors.

I was going through my router settings and noticed that I had port 80 forwarded to a security camera system from a while back that I really no longer need exposed to the internet. I removed that port forwarding then started playing around with getting both
the One and the 360 connected at once and most of the errors seem to have gone away.

    support.xbox.com/.../network-ports-used-xbox-live

In my case, it seems that when only one of the devices was attempting to communicate with the Live service, things were OK but as soon as you added in the second device, that's when all hell broke lose and basically nothing would consistently communicate
    properly.

After doing some reading, it seems that setting port 3074 to forward to your desired "Performance" system or the system you will use the most often is the best bet so I assigned static IP's to both systems and forwarded 3074 to the Xbox One, we shall see
how things go from here I guess. So far so good.

Glad to hear you'd finally narrowed down the issue. My issue has seemed to fix itself at the moment.

By any chance did you have Upnp on, and port forwarding at the same time. Because I was on the understanding that its best not to use both at the same.

I'm still not sure what has actually caused this issue for some users.

I thought I would put an update to this issue. I worked out eventually that I had a bad switch on my network that was causing additional problems. Once I replaced that, the connection problems significantly dropped.

I still will frequently get the communication error message but it happens once or twice a week and after two or three attempts I am good to go. No where near the same level of problems I had previously.

With any luck, things will keep rolling along in good shape.

Same here, still have no idea why it did this. And still can't work out what I did to fix the issue as apart from maybe once or twice over the last couple of weeks it hasn't happened at all.

As we've both kind of worked its definitely a network issue, but I'd still love to know what actually caused it in the first place.

Sounds to me like you're having alot more issues than mine, but I too think it has to do with using Xbox one and Xbox 360.

Unfortunately I can't pinpoint exactly what I did to fix the sign in with controller issue, but I can list the last couple of things I tried.

    1. I was getting an unrelated error on Amazon Instant so I decided to change my Ethernet cable and switch the port I was using. No harm in trying this.

    2. When I tested the secondary account on my Xbox one instead of removing my profile(as you've found out its a nightmare to re-add) all I did was change the sign in with Kinect to off under Sign in and privacy setting. Once I'd had no errors with it I simply
reset it to on and have had no issues since. and at the same time removed kinect sign in data for my account.

    3. Something else I did try was to remove both my accounts from Xbox one AND Xbox 360, so I had up to date accounts on both. One thing you must do is to clear the cache on both Xbox 360(delete only profile or you'll lose all saves) and do a full reboot on
Xbox one by switching off the console after doing a soft reset on it.

Now here's something I had originally set and had changed recently but ensure auto sign in on all accounts on Xbox 360 is set to off.

As I said I don't know actually what I did to fix the error but try the following and maybe it'll fix the error hopefully.

Constantly getting "Sign in with controller" on first sign in attempt

After several hours of troubleshooting with support via chat and doing a lot of messing around on my own, I narrowed this down to specifically being a problem with my live ID. Removing my account from the system and rebooting allows me to do pretty much
whatever I want (as long as it doesn't require Gold as my account is the only one with Gold) and there are no errors.

Adding my account back in, which is a feat all by itself as it errors out constantly just trying to download, brings all the login errors back.

If I reboot and do not log into my Live ID, the other users can operate without any issue, once my Live ID attempts to connect and do anything at all, the errors plague all users on the system until a power cycle occurs.

I am having the same problem with the 360, just navigating the menus and making changes to profile settings or the way my avatar looks creates connection issues on the 360. This all started when I purchased the Xbox One a few months ago.

Currently I have an escellated <sp?> ticket with support, hopefully they will come up with some kind of answer.

No one else in my home has Gold so I don't know if this is somehow related to a paid gold account accessing both 360 and Xbox One or just a corrupt Live ID that needs to be repaired on MS server. Maybe something to do with the way Gold shares access on
the One but no other systems? I don't know.

Sure is frustrating though. I want to be able to log into Ghosts with my wife in less than 45 minutes nightly.

Constantly getting "Sign in with controller" on first sign in attempt

    Hi @Lee

thanks for the suggestion, but I'd tried a factory reset a week ago, seemed to fix it for a day or two but then it reoccurred. Tried everything I can thing of even unplugging all the cables but with no joy. Support on Twitter seem to think its an error with
my account but everything appears correct.

So I'm at a lose to what is causing this to happen, if it was constantly happening every time I signed in I'd get in touch with phone support.
