    Constantly disconnected from XBL on 2 360 consoles since the March 14 major update


    Okay, I've gone through it all and I'll recap here:

    I'm on Cox in Phoenix with the premiere level service, maintaining over 10MB/sec+ on speed tests, no errors in the MODEM logs.

    Disconnected all router components from the Cable MODEM down to the Xbox.

    Reconnected all in proper order after long wait (Cox assigned new IP, so definitely long enough)

    Checked that NAT is Open and UPnP is properly enabled

    Checked signal strength on both Xbox systems - 4 bars

    (I also checked for 2.4GHz interference - clean airwaves)

    Still disconnected frequently

    Hardwired one 360 directly to the Cable MODEM

    Still disconnected 3 times in one hour

    Checked MTU settings just in case (this config has been rock solid for over 2 years, BTW)

    Back to step one - disconnect / reconnect

    This time, I attached my Linux system as a tcpdump sniffer

    Next options -

    Clear Cache 3x - check

    Still disconnected

    Delete and redownload Profile - check

    Still disconnected

    Here are my "More Info" values:

    W: 0000-0021

    X: 0000-F001

    Y: 20A8-4840

    Z: 0000-0000

    ID FFFF-FFFF

    L: 0015-10F1

    Q: 8015-100C

    T: Wireless

    A: 192.168.2.110/255.255.255.0

    G:192.168.2.1

    D: 68.105.28.12, 68.105.29.12

    N: Section 3 NOC

    S: WPA2

    C: 1

    Checked Linux tcpdump output - everything is clean. All packets are transferring just fine and then the XBL system just drops the connection.

    All other systems are working fine on this network

    Checked with a neighbor on the same Cox node and he has also been disconnected - and here's the rub - EXCEPT when playing Titanfall...

    I can't play multiplayer games, can't watch Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime, Can'e download demos.

    ^ Here's my three reasons why I quit:

    1) It's a no-vehicle map

    2) Terrible team

    3) I constantly get disconnected, sometimes it makes me want to snap my disk. Going 14-0 on that B2K map,,, Seirra something or the other, then it says "disconnected from XBL" makes me rage. Constantly disconnected from XBL on 2 360 consoles since the March 14 major update :)
     
  3. Keeping diconnecting and XBL is slow since the lastest update

    Well first I could not update my console from XBL. Had to download it on my computer and apply the update via USB. Since then, I keep getting disconnected and XBL is really slow. I also cleared the cashe..btw, My DMZ is open to my 360's IP

    Anything I can try?

    I thought that an ARP table cache clear and reset had sorted this, but it still didn't. In fact, the latest disconnect was a double - got the message about the disconnect, while that was displayed, I got another.

    G'day brucoder, sorry to hear about the connection issues. Let's try to narrow this down a bit. You say you have these issues on 2 consoles - have you taken both consoles through all of the tests you mentioned in your original post? Are you trying to connect
    on both at the same time, or do you experience these disconnects when only one console is connecting to the network?

    If you and your neighbor are experiencing the same disconnects on the same ISP, it may help to contact your ISP to see if something's going on on their end too. Have you reached out to them about the disconnects?

    We have finally gotten to the answer on this. Part of it is related to the way the Xbox deals with DNS searches and connection maintenance, and the other is related to the Motorola Surfboard DOCSIS 3 modems.

    While I know that nothing will change the DNS manipulation in the Xbox 360 network stack, I was able to solve my issues by dumping my Motorola and moving to a Netgear cable MODEM. The problems seems to be in the way the Motorola deals with ARP table caching.
    The new Netgear has now been solid for over 3 weeks.

    We have finally gotten to the answer on this. Part of it is related to the way the Xbox deals with DNS searches and connection maintenance, and the other is related to the Motorola Surfboard DOCSIS 3 modems.

    While I know that nothing will change the DNS manipulation in the Xbox 360 network stack, I was able to solve my issues by dumping my Motorola and moving to a Netgear cable MODEM. The problems seems to be in the way the Motorola deals with ARP table caching.
    The new Netgear has now been solid for over 3 weeks.

    Having to be present

    What's worse is Xbox 360. When there's an update on 360, your console abruptly disconnects you from XBL, abruptly disconnects you from your XBL Party with your friends, then takes 10 hours to complete, lol just kidding. Like Internet Expert said, Xbox 1
    has instant on, where your console does updates automatically in the background.
