Constant Xbox One disc drive issues, even after sending in for repair :(

Ever since July or so I have been having issues with my disc drive on my Xbox One.

- Started off with not reading discs at all, so I sent it into Microsoft for repair and got it returned, working fine, but with a letter stating that they found nothing wrong with my system. Was able to play with no issuesfor a while, until...

- In August or September I was told to download an update, so I did, and as it was applying the update my system froze and I got the "Bricked" error code, so I had to send it in again. I get it back with the same "We found nothing wrong with your system"
letter... ok.

So I plug in my system and go to install a new game I got, it froze at 11% and then had an error message saying it couldn't read the disc, it may be dirty. I cleaned it, put it in, yet the Xbox didn't recognize the disc, or even make a noise as if it was
reading it.

I FINALLY got the disc to install after doing god knows what and was able to play the game a little bit. HOWEVER, after turning off the system that night my Xbox does not want to read ANY discs, again. It's not even making a sound as if it was loading or
anything. It plays digital games just fine, but physical, nope. I've tried tilting the system, holding the disc for a second until the drive tries to pull it in harder and releasing it, unplugging it for a while, power cycle, etc etc etc. This morning I tried
again, it made "loading noises", but kept starting and stopping and would never have a constant sound, or bring the game up at all.

There is another thing it has started doing that is VERY hard to explain, but I'll try...

- Ever since I got my system back it will do this thing where I will eject the disc, take it out, then the system will make a sound as if it is trying to pull a disc in, even though there is nothing in the disc slot. Even when I shut my system down it makes
this "disc inserting" noise.

I really want to send it in again for repair, but if I am having the same issue that I started off that didn't get fixed/wasn't acting up while in the shop, then I don't know where to go from here.

I'm not one to be difficult, but this is very frustrating when I just want to relaxing and play some video games on a day off.

Sticky disc drive

Sounds like you have to send it in for repairs or buy a new one. You can probably fix it yourself with some online tutorials, but that's up to you. I had issues with my disc drive before I bought the new Xbox 360 S model and it wouldn't read discs. It would open and close the tray, but it wouldn't read discs. So I decided to buy a new one. However, this that you got may be fixable.

Chances are is that your disc drive / laser is failing. Your only options may be either sending in your xbox for repair or purchasing a new one. Sorry

This solution doesn't help. It's not a single disc, but all discs. My son got Nascar heat 4 and fresh out of the package were had this issue. As for repair, they want $250. How can you know how much a repair costs without even looking at it? I wouldn't
have a problem paint to get it repaired

1. had they not charged half the cost of a new console for a disc drive

2. Had this not been a constant issue due to cheap parts being used.

I thought Microsoft would've learned from their mistakes with the rrod on the 360, but they cheaped out on the disc drive on the one and want a ridiculous fee to fix it.

Seems like the issue could be with your disc drive, if you experience the issue with multiple discs then I would recommend sending in your console to repair/replace the disc drive.

This does happen. It happened with a Dragon Age: Inquisition Disc in a 2 hour old Xbox one that I bought 2 days ago. I put the disk in, and it installed (downloaded from the internet, ironically, even though I had a disc... this is a huge issue with how
bad the WiFi speeds are in this Console - 8Mbps on a 100Mbps connection with the router 18 inches away from it), and after installing the disc image literally disappeared and it functioned like I had no disc in the drive. When I tried to launch the game it
told me to insert the disc. I had to eject and insert the disc twice before it would show up and let me play.

I returned the Xbox One for a refund yesterday, after < 24 hours of having it.

It's the buggiest console I've ever used (Complete Freezes requiring Hard Reboots, Disc Drive issues, WiFi connection issues, etc.).

Anyone having these kinds of errors should either:

1. Exchange it for another unit, or

2. Get a refund on their purchase.

Do not send in a *new* Xbox for repair, that's stupid. You can go to the store and just exchange it on the spot and if the second one has the same issue, take it back for a full refund. Sending it in for repair *will* complicate things and will likely
make you wait until after your return period is up to see if it even fixed the issue.

When a drive starts doing this, it usually means that it's failing. Anyone who has used a Desktop or Notebook computer knows this. Usually before the drive stops reading discs, it will start "dropping" the inserted disk (it will be there, then it will
be as if no disc is in the drive - exactly what the Xbox Ones are doing).

How much do you value your money ($350-500)?
