Constant System Updates

Alright. I don’t know what’s going on, but I’ve now had to update my Xbox One for about…around nine times this week. It’s almost every day for the past week now, around five or six in the evening, eastern. Why is this happening? The updates are typically
around 420 to 470 megabytes. Have I missed an annoucement or something concerning daily system updates? Whatever is going on, this is absolutely ridiculous. Thanks for any and all replies (hopefully).

This issue was fixed a couple of updates back I'm pleased to say. Thanks to Microsoft for the constant updates to the system.

 

Constant freezing before sign-in

I got on this morning to constant freezing before the sign in screen. When I get past the sign in a system update becomes available and after completing another system update becomes available and It then crashes

 

Hi, I'm guessing your Xbox is using the preview software, there have been several updates this past week so there is nothing untoward going on.

 

you can change from latest update to the other option (forget what its called, can't check, updating lol) But it is clear enough which option to change to. Use the insider app for preview members (the main app, with a key on the tile) mine downloads in
a minute or so, but then takes a while to finish. I type really slow, and it is still going now.... applying 87% lol

You could also leave your console in "instant on" mode in the power settings & the updates will download when your console is off.

 

The Biggest problem I have with these updates are 2 things.

1.Any game that does not have a disc will not work without being connected to live.

2.Plex will not work without being connected to live.

And to top it all off I've been having trouble getting my game updates and downloads to stop. Which wouldn't seem to be that big of a problem except that if you go to update your xbox it does not pause your downloads. So it attempts to download your game
and the update. Which gets nowhere. So for the 1 hour I have to play its basically a useless box for at least half that time. Just let the games and plex work without being connected to live. errkkk....

It's been crazy lately seriously, I'm in the preview program so I understand that there 's going to be more updates then usual, but 500mb *every* day?! What is going on.... and there's no way to turn them of or at least delay them, so I've been thrown out
in the middle of a game several times this week cos it suddenly *had* to update right there and then, it's getting seriously annoying now -_-

 

Same, I'm getting 450mb is downloads everyday I'm completely sick of it.

 

You always have the option to opt out of the preview program of course, that will stop the constant updates.

What should I do if I want to stop participating in the program?

If you decide that you don't want to get Preview updates anymore you can opt out in the Xbox Preview Dashboard app. You won't be removed from the program right away; it won't happen until the current update is released to the general public. If you change
your mind, you can always re-register your console later using the Xbox Preview Dashboard app.

Here's how to remove your console from the Xbox Preview program:

1. Open the Xbox Preview Dashboard app.
2. Select Registration.
3. Under Manage flights, select Change.
   
   Note If you have more than one console in the program, you can change their statuses by using
   Manage other consoles.
4. Under Manage programs, select Remove, and then select Submit. You'll be prompted to select a reason for leaving.
   

If you run into any issues, post in the private Xbox Early Access forums for help.

Note Your console won't be removed from the program until the current Preview update is released to the general public, so it won't happen right away. Until then, your console's status will show as
Pending.

As I see things it's like this, as the public release gets closer then the updates become more frequent, the preview team start to fix the smaller issues until the update is polished enough to roll out to everyone.

 

There is an option in settings/ all settings/ power & startup/ power mode & startup, it says " keep my console and games up to date" Now having not actually tried that perhaps if you uncheck that option the updates will stop ?

 

If you experience problems whilst using the console I would recommend sending feedback via the console (keep the guide button pressed for a second until a box pops up with the Report a problem option,

Then, create a forum post on the preview forums where you can explain in more details what the problem is, and this can then be tied in to your feedback. If you don't have a chatpad I would make the feedback on the console brief, but enough to say what
the problem is, and then follow this up on the forum with a more detailed description.

If not many people are experiencing the same problems / use the software, have different configurations etc, then this helps the dev team resolve problems faster.

If I come across a problem I do this, and every time after an update so that people know the problem still exists.

Re updates...when this version of the OS was released there would be updates once a week or so. This new version of the dashboard is due tor release in a week's time when the Xbox S gets released. As a result I'm guessing that more and more fixes are being
implemented, and the devs need to get these out to the preview members to test them sooner rather than later.

If you decide not to let an update go through on one day of around 450 megs, the next update that gets installed in preview will be around 4 gigs in size...so I wouldn't recommend disabling automatic updates. The updates come down for a reason, so in my
opinion I would let it do what it has to do.
