constant disconnection from xbox live on xbox

when I am playing it is constantly disconnecting me from the game and coming up with an error message stating "you will need a network connection to add a account" I do I stop this from happening

Well, what exactly is happening? I see from your title that you are getting disconnected but that's a fraction of what we need to know. If you could read the sticky post here:

forums.xbox.com/.../9.aspx and answer the bold questions at the bottom we could do more to help out.

Also to point out briefly, just about every thread here gets fixed by adjusting the customer end networking settings or configuration, which the users on these forums are more than happy to try and help you do.

How is your console connected to your network? Via Ethernet cable or WiFi?

Is it just me or whilst wiating for this update is anyone else getting constant disconnections from Xbox Live. Alright maybe constant is a bit strong but 3 times in the last hour and 6 times today overall.

Am I alone ???

Same issue and i have tried a direct cable connection and still having a problem I was playing at 6am (oct. 29 2011) no problem went to play at 10am and can connect for a matter of seconds then i'm disconnected from xbox live...of course I just renewed my
xbox gold thingy...grrrr very frustrated

Hey Mooseboy, to be clear, are you being disconnected from LIVE while in the dashboard, or while in a game? Also, have you tried bypassing your router to see if the same issue occurs with a direct-modem connection (once you've restarted the modem itself,
of course)?

I haven't tried that, but prior to attempting anything, the router was at default settings. I had not touched them at all.

Argalon, does your router have an option anywhere in the settings where you can specify that the connection is "always on" for example? If this is the case you may want to try changing the current value and see if that improves your situation.

Another thing you could try, if your router allows it, is to place your xbox 360 into the DMZ to rule out any problem being caused by your router.
