    The reason I like a separate modem ONLY is that you can plug straight up to it without the router and test that way , you could also put you gateway in "bridge mode " and test if you comfortable doing that ...

    Then you probably shouldn't try it , "bridge mode" turns it into just a modem and disables all the router functions (where I believe the problem lies) if you don't have any disconnects in bridge mode , you know its in your router....IF you do go to buy
    something just make sure they have a return policy in case it dosent help ....DO NOT buy a modem router combo !!! get a modem ONLY then a router only ....you could just go get the modem only and use it to test with .....you shouldn't have to do any of that
    stuff you mentioned above , you could try and reset to defaults the one you have now and just make sure UPNP is enabled when it comes back up ...also make sure its running the latest firmware...

    UPNP is enabled. Default setting has it enabled and it has stayed enabled. Im debating on which modem to go with. Either the Arris (Motorola) SB6141, SB6183, SB6190. All supported by my ISP. All modems only. I have a router in my closet somewhere so no
    need to get one. I think its the Netgear N900 or something like that. But anyway, reading some of the "Best Modems" and it say the SB6141 is the best but the other 2 show that they are better.. tough decision lol

    Id just get the cheapest modem , the router makes all the decisions ...if where you get it also has Netgear modems , that's what I got and never had a problem...

    To add a little to the thought process. Just be sure the modem supports your download/upload bandwidths. Also, as I was reading through the thread I noticed both port forwarding and UPnP were mentioned but I didn't see any where ( I may have missed it)
    it indicated that you don't want to be using both at the same time.

    No , that's conflicting the router maybe using both ...I would just restore the router to factory defaults , then see if upnp is enabled (It should be by default) sometimes that will do it according to others , also check if there is a firmware update available
    , but if that modem is from your isp they may have that blocked...

    Xbox Live December 6 Dashboard Update Delayed.

    Is it just me or whilst wiating for this update is anyone else getting constant disconnections from Xbox Live. Alright maybe constant is a bit strong but 3 times in the last hour and 6 times today overall.

    Am I alone ???

    hmm lets see uhh did you try turning off your modem on your connection b/c sometimes when the connection gets interupted you could lose connection and all that so turn your wirless box of for like 30sec and turn it back on so it could refresh the connection
    and try that sometimes that works for me and if you try it and nothing works then try and rebooting the whole system then :)

    Hello brizlek! Would you be able to try changing your DNS settings on your console? Set them to manual, then input these server addresses: 4.2.2.1 for Primary, and 4.2.2.2 for Secondary. Let us know how that goes. :)

    Same issue and i have tried a direct cable connection and still having a problem I was playing at 6am (oct. 29 2011) no problem went to play at 10am and can connect for a matter of seconds then i'm disconnected from xbox live...of course I just renewed my
    xbox gold thingy...grrrr very frustrated
