Console Won't Recognize Wired Controllers

This has been an enduring problem for me for a while now. My Xbox One S won't recognize wired controllers. I plug them in, but they don't key in to my profile and don't work at all. It used to be enough to unplug them and then plug them back in, but now
the problem has deteriorated to the point it just won't recognize the wired controllers at all. In fact, when I try to use the charging cable for a wireless controller, it won't recognize that either, meaning it won't charge the pack.

Now, I could send it in to Microsoft and have them take a look at it, but I have some misgivings about that. Well, one misgiving, really. My younger brother had a similar problem with his Xbox One (not S) and sent it in to MS. They looked at it and couldn't
find a problem with it, so they did a factory reset and sent it right back to him. That didn't fix the problem, and he still has issues when he tries to play with a wired controller.

So, I have a warranty through MS but also a replacement plan through GameStop. If I send it in to MS, that would use up the warranty and maybe not help the situation. If I replace it through GameStop, I void the MS warranty but get a refurbished Xbox One
S that won't have the problem with controllers. The latter option also means I just go to the store, trade it in for a replacement, and that's it. The former choice means buying a box and bubble wrap, sending it off via the post office, waiting for MS to look
at it and maybe or maybe not repair it, and then send it back, again, having maybe or maybe not fixed the issue. Which seems the better choice?

Controller syncing

my xbox one refuses to sync wireless controllers so I had to use the cable and used them via wired cable. Now my Xbox won't even recognize a controller that's wired, and I'm only using official xbox accessories for the Xbox one

using the controller via the cable,try holding in the snyc button while the controller is turned off,keep it pressed while turning on the controller then wait and see if it connects.dont let go of the snyc button until it does.

Is the USB cord connected to the controller and can't be removed? Or are you using a removable Play&Charge cable?

Usually, when the controller shows two alternately flashing LED's, it is a sign that the batteries are almost empty.

If it's a wired controller, it could be, that the wires in the cable are broken, and you have a loose contact in one of the wires (maybe because the cable was bent too much or too often).

In that case, the PC won't recognize the USB device properly, and in the case the controller was connected, the wire inside the cable lost contact, and then connects the broken wire again, the controller might be detected as a new controller device, and
is then assigned the "Player 2", "Player 3" or "Player 4" LED quadrant.

Hi, Dericka! When I connect it using wired connection (special xbox wire for this controller) windows 11 recognizes it like just "controller". That`s it.

Have you by any chance attempted to connect the controller directly to the PC through a wired connection?

As well, you have mentioned that the controller that came with the Xbox One console is recognized on the PC, but that the elite controller is not recognized at all on the PC. This same elite controller, does it have any issues with connecting to the Xbox
One console?

Before the latest dashboard update, there was a simple way to defrag the hard disk: by turning on the console with the controller, and holding RB, RT and Y (soon after the controller is recognized during the intro logo).

Doing so, the console would restart before the dashboard appeared on screen, and the Hard Disk is defragged.

Now this method doesn't work anymore:

if you turn on the console with the controller, the Xbox 360 won't recognize the controller until the dashboard is fully loaded. The problem is that, since the console recognizes the controller so late, you can't do the defrag anymore.

I didn't find any other way to defrag the hard disk.

When I tried to power up my Xbox 360s this morning, instead of making the familiar 'ding' sound, it made a static crackle sound and would not power up. This happened 3-4 times until I unplugged the power brick. Then upon restart I had the fault described
above. So I powered down, and unplugged the power brick from the console and mains, allowing it to drain fully, and the hdmi connection, and the wireless charging cables. Then after reconnecting the hdmi, the power brick, and powering back up it worked perfectly
and recognised the wireless controllers too.
