Console won't download/recognize update

I recently downloaded the free game Dark Souls on a USB Stick, and noticed I couldn't play online because no update were installed. I made sure I was connected to the internet and Xbox Live but my console wouldn't ask me to download an update, so I used
my friend's disk to play the game and I was asked to download the update (which I did). I played on the disk fine, but when I tried playing on my USB, the game wouldn't recognize the update! I tried moving the patch from hard drive to USB but it didn't change
a thing. I was wandering if it already happened to anyone and how they fixed it, because I'd like to play the updated game without my friend's disk. Excuse me for the grammar mistakes, english isn't my first language.

Your console needs to download an emulation profile to play the game, and since you can't connect to Live to download it, your console won't recognize it. There's no way to download these profiles manually, nor can they be copied from other consoles. They're
not included with the dashboard updates either. You're unfortunately out of luck.

@Min - if you're having issues downloading the update and the console won't recognize your ethernet cable, you can either download the update to a usb/cd and load it from there (link below) or contact support to set up a repair.

I don't know if it's relevant, but when I downloaded Dark Souls on the marketplace, the download stopped at 80%.

 

After messing with my game file, I somehow got it to look for an update.

 

Care to share how you did it so that others may be able to get it to work?

 

Testing your network connection will automatically look for any updates that you have not currently downloaded.
