Console unable to read disc (license error) unless console is rebooted

Hi

After installing a recent update to my Xbox One S my games no longer start from disc without rebooting the console first, displaying the unable to verify license message.

If I switch the console to instant on, the issue goes away, meaning it's not a problem with the drive (and the fact it works after a reboot would also add further weight to that argument). Soft-resetting the console has also made no difference.

As this issue occurred AFTER installing a software update I suspect this to be the culprit and I would therefore expect some kind of resolution to be provided by Microsoft FoC as:

There is no hardware issue evidenced by not having issues after restarting and using instant on

The issue only started after a recent software update

You are forced to download updates in order to carry on using Xbox Live, opting out means losing half the functionality of the console

Not being able to log a proper support call regarding this for a resolution

All resolutions to solving this issue would be welcome. Leaving the console in "instant on" mode is not an acceptable resolution due to the additional power consumption.

I'm not convinced, this has been an ongoing issue for a while based on the number of posts about it and seemingly not linked at all to Xbox Live (same issue if I disconnect from the network)

Just to add a bit more background to what the others already said:

The license to "unlock" the disc games to be playable on a console is stored on the disc itself.

By inserting the disc you prove the console that you own the game, as the disc is the "proof of purchase". The license ("proof of purchase") is NOT added to your account profile with a disc based game.

With digital games, the license is added to your account. So no matter where you sign in on a console, you can download and play your digital game.

Since the disc game didn't add the license to your digital profile, and the Xbox One Digital Edition not having a disc drive, you would be unable to play your disc games unless you re-purchased the download version.

No, the game remains on the list. I believe there might be some problem with the disc, some writing error that the console can't read the game license correctly.
