Console thinks a headset is connected when one isn't

A problem just started today. I was playing Destiny and it was showing the headset icon on my banner in game, even though no headset was connected. I connected my headset to see if it would work, and it did, then unplugged it and the icon disappeared. But
the next time a screen loaded, the icon was back. I quit and reloaded the game several times, and it still happened. Then I restarted the console, and it still did it. So I power cycled the console, and it still is doing it. What am I supposed to do to fix
this? Why is the console telling the game I'm using a headset when I'm not?

    :)

    Controller issues

My newer controller says that there is a headset connected to it, but there isn't one connected to it. I am trying to get my wireless headset connected to it but the wireless headset goes to the other controller spaces how do I fix this?

  3. Xbox one controller and skull candy SLYR headset

so I bought a skull candy slyr headset as a replacement headset from the cheap one you get when you buy the console, and it works perfectly with the controller I bought with the Xbox but now that the controller is old and is falling apart I bought a new
controller (had the old controller for about two years of constant play) and it seems that the headset won't turn on when connected to the controller bear in mind these are the new controllers that come with the Xbox one S or are similar as such. Not the day
one controllers that first Came out. Anyone have some ideas as to why the controllers and headset won't work? I think it's cause the headset is only compatable with older controllers which I hope isn't the case

hmmm, that's a strange one....I would try and update the controller with the headset plugged in and see if that jars it loose....

If you have a kinect attached to your console. The xbox could be using the kinect microphone as an alternative to the normal mic. Also make sure you headset is assigned to a profile if it categorized as a device.

How would I go about updating the controller? It updated itself when I first used the system and hasn't mentioned an update since.

    @YoyoGod

I don't have a Kinect, and I don't think the headset is recognized as a "device".

You'll need to connect the controller with a micro USB and to the console a standard USB 3.0

    Something similar to this

    www.ebay/Xbox-to-controller-USB/MicroUSB

Once connected to the console and controller go to settings - kinect & devices - devices & accessories - xbox one wireless controller - update

I love that a support forum post is getting no attention from support.

    Hey Any1GotADollar -

Have you tried the steps provided above by Squid CA? If not, please try that first. Does the issue persist across multiple games or specifically only Destiny? Do you have another controller you can try using?

If the issue continues to occur and a
    power cycle
does not help, I would suggest trying to
    factory reset
your console choosing the "keep my games and apps" option.

Give all that a shot and let us know if you need further assistance. Console thinks a headset is connected when one isn't :)

Console thinks a headset is connected when one isn’t

Hi Bobby! I'll do my best to help.

What exactly are your Xbox console and controller/headset models?
Is your headset directly plugged in to your controller?
Are you using a separate mic aside from your headset?
Also, when did this issue start to occur?
What steps have you tried so far?

I recommend that you try all the suggested troubleshooting steps from the link below:
