    Console shuts down when trying to transfer from external hard drive


    Posting this for a friend, because he doesn't use Reddit.

    Console is shutting down when trying to transfer games from external hard drive. He has 2 external hard drives, both Seagate 8TB, both practically new, both tested 100% with apps on PC (Seatools, Hard Disk Sentinel).

    His dash is 10.0 19041.3906, rs xbox release 2008.200708-000. This problem can be duplicated on my bone stock retail dash, which as of this writing is 10.0.19041.3068/2006.200610-0000.

    There is no way to press/hold the home button and report a problem, the console shuts down too quickly.

    Yes, he has reset his console.

    Yes, he has reformatted the drives.

    We've made multiple calls to Microsoft (and they didn't even document anything) we did chat with Microsoft and have a SR** case number, no follow up so far. We talked to Seagate for over an hour and a half, their only suggestion was to try using a game drive rather than the Backup Plus Hub, otherwise unhelpful.

    Transferring one game at a time does work, but with 600+ games, that would take an eternity and this should work without such problems.

    Maybe try this:

    1. Turn off the Xbox 360 completely.
    2. Disconnect all cables and devices from the console.
    3. Remove the external hard drive if one is attached.
    4. Reconnect the power source and restart the console.
    5. Shut down the console and reattach the hard drive.

    Yes you will! If you have an external hard drive, transfer it to that, then, when you get your next gen console plug the hard drive into the USB port and transfer it from the external to the SSD hard drive that is in your new xbox to enjoy the speeds and
    benefits of the new console!

    The external hard drive was around 20% full. After the I formatted the external hard drive it went down to 0% as everything was uninstalled. Thing is i tried transfering Battlefield 1 from the internal hard drive to the now empty external hard drive and
    it started transferring. Battlefield 1 was one of the games that just stopped installing/transferring when i wanted to move from the internal to the external hard drive so i might of fixed the problem. Now i am just concerned that the games that were uninstalled
    will not have anyting saved and i will have lost everything.

    Not enough disc space........ But there is.

    Do you have an external hard drive? If that is full or if your main hard drive is full you'll have to transfer a game from one to the other.

    If that's not the reason did you try hard resetting your Xbox? (Holding the power button until the console shuts off and unplugging the power cord for 30 seconds) then try installing again.

    Sorry to hear it. Please try power cycling the console by holding the power button for 10 seconds until it shuts down. When it is off unplug all cables from the console and let it sit for 10 minutes. This would include the external hard drive if you have
    one.
