Console running very hot, any suggestions?

Lately my console(360 S, bought in Feb 2011) is running very hot while playing installed games(haven't played anything on disc for a while). It has also locked up completely a few times while playing(as in, the screen freezes and the console becomes unresponsive
and has to be switched off with two swipes), but I'm not 100% sure that's part of the problem as it was while playing games that other users have mass-reported as causing their consoles to freeze in this way(mostly fable anniversary & a specific area in GTA:SA).

The console lives on a desk with plenty of free space all around it and is kept on it's side to give it as much air as possible, so I'm not sure there's anything else I can do. Ran through the trouble-shooting steps for screen freezing until it told me my
console required repair, which I'm not sure it does. :s

So yeah. Do I need to panic yet? It seems completely fine apart from the freezes and I'm not 100% convinced it's the console causing those(is there a way to test the console in that regard? I was thinking of letting netflix play a show for a few hours to see
if it'll freeze or something, but I don't think that puts the console to as much "work" as playing a game, so I dunno). The heat does concern me a bit, but it's not burning to the touch or anything alarming(probably about the same as a Windows laptop in heavy
use) and it does get a lot of use and for long periods, but if there's anything else I can do to keep it cool then I'd like to give it a go.

I don't have any problems with my console running too hot. Does your console malfunction due to getting too hot?

 

Overheating

Mine has been running really hot had the controller sitting on top of the console was pretty hot to the touch underneath and to touch the top of the console is really how not warm... actually hot ... and this wasn't on a hot day either also i notice my power
brick makes allot of noise ... console is probably 2 months old give or take.

Haven't noticed any difference with the console besides that runs fine.

Sorry to hear about the heat issues! I would keep the option for a repair open if you have tried the steps in our
screen freeze troubleshooter. Is the freezing issue happening across multiple games and apps?

 

On the matter of the console overheating, buy a new fan for it, run a fan in it's direction. Also, go somewhere to see if it actually does need repair, just in case. Mister Beep pretty much said the rest.
