  2. downloading an already installed game

if I install a game like Destiny, and If I decide to download the game ive already installed and return the disc, what would happen?

would I still have my saved progress?

im wondering because when destiny comes out im buying a psysical copy and installing it. then again, I want it digitally and don't want to have to wait till its available digitally.

    downloading an already installed game

Game saves are separate from game installs/downloads. Also, the install file is different than the download file. So you would not be able to use the install without the disc.

    Hi DavieM69,

Often games have updates that are very large, and almost if not the whole size of the games. Could this be what's happening to your games, or is it randomly reinstalling it? If it is, do you have them on an external hard drive? If so, try moving a
game to the internal drive of your console to see if the issues persist.

Same issue. All storage is internal. Multiple hard resets after adjusting settings such as home Xbox, power mode, turning off auto updates, etc.. The download is the exact same size as the full game (ARK in my case) and I've deleted enough things to download
it in the past and it seemed to have turned out to be a smaller update because it didn't take up as much storage as it said it would. That being said, it still downloaded 33gigs, taking a chunk out of my data limit. This needs to be fixed ASAP because people
can get charged overages for the massive, pointless data transfers.

  6. Hi MANDEAN72,

When a game updates, it will overwrite a lot of stuff that's already there, that's why you'll see that a game hasn't increased in size as much as the size of the update itself.

Other things that can help if you have a data limit are to turn off automatic updates and keep your console in Energy-Saving mode. This will ensure that games are only updates when you want to play them, rather than updating with each new patch. That way,
you aren't downloading updates all the time, and most of the time, 1 update that includes the last few, won't be nearly as big as all the updates added together.

Also, make sure your console is wired to your router if possible, as WiFi can see more packet loss than connected via ether net. a 5% packet loss on a 30GB update can take an extra 1.5GB off from your Data Allowance, since the packets need to be redownloaded.

Ark updates are generally 500mb -1.5gb or so. The Scorched Earth actual DLC was close to 12gb I think. My download queue shows the base game and that it's literally the same size as the very game I already have installed. I've done previous updates and they'll
say "update size:..." This says "ARK:Survival Evolved needs 33gb of free space to install". If it's going to be a 1.5gb update then it shouldn't have me redownload the whole game.

Thank you for the data saving tips. They'll be very useful. I changed ISP to get enough upload speed for twitch but turns out I can't upload more than an hour per week with their crap limit. Irony

There was a service alert regarding this issue and it seemed the problem is solved now. I suggest you to check again the downloading queue of your console.

    Hello Magazine,

Thank you for posting here on the Xbox forums. I have split your post into its own thread in order to help you out directly. Whenever a game is moved from the internal storage to an external storage, a second progress bar shows up. This is not the game installing
again. This progress bar is showing how far along the game is from moving between storages.

Just to be sure, you can access your Storage settings. Access your internal and your external storage to look for any duplicates.

    Hope this helps!
