Console not reading Discs until restarted

Had my Xbox One for a few months now, it's been fine up until now - been enjoying it! However, recently I have come into an issue. The console doesn't seem to want to read any discs unless I turn off all power and restart it. I'll turn it on for the first
time and when I switch the discs over, it will not even recognize that there is a disc in the drive. I do not get any error messages or 'cannot read disc' stuff, it just displays 'Insert Disc' with a picture of the CD as if there is no disc in at all. I can
hear the console spinning the disc, but it does not show that it has recognised it on-screen and I cannot play the game.I have found that if I switch off all power (at the plug on the wall) and then reboot, it works fine again. I now have to do this every
time I turn on the console. However, when I turn off the console while it cannot read the disc, it refuses to shut down until I switch off the power. The screen will go black and the Xbox light on console will just keep flashing for ever, it will not completely
shut down.

I was wondering how serious this is? Also, as the console clearly can read the discs the second time and I can hear it reading the discs the first time of trying, is this a hardware problem or software issue?I have heard that some people's consoles stop
reading discs altogether and have to get it replaced, is this the problem I am having?

won't read discs

same problem here. 360S console. worked fine up until I did the update this morning. some discs work, some don't. makes funny noises when reading discs that wont load.

 

Discs aren't being read; console OS not the newest after update.

Everything was going well on my system until I realized it would not read the discs. The update was successful, yet my OS version is still 6.2.10210.0. I think that is why the console is not reading the discs. I wonder if there is a way to manually trigger
an update? The console works perfectly up until putting a disc into the drive. There aren't any noises coming from the drive either.

 

I've recently come across this same problem. Brand new games I bought like Sunset Overdrive, Halo, GTA V, and FarCry 4. I've tried to unplug/plug again. It takes multiple tries of ejecting and inserting disc again. This is my 2nd issue I've had and I have
a day one console. First time I had a black screen issue, had to send it for repair. Ended up getting the same console back. Now I'm going to have to send for repair again. Bleh!

 

I'm having a similar issue now. It was reading disks fine yesterday and now it just wants to play regular dvd's, no blu ray or games. I've tried everything suggested and it still doesn't work.
