Console is on Instant-On, but fully shuts down frequently

My Xbox One is on Instant-On, but recently (I wanna say starting about a week ago) it would just shut down completely. I would hold the guide button, press 'turn off console' and my Xbox would do that blinking power indicator thing for about a minute, then
finally shut down. Anyone else having this problem? I've seen some people say that surge protectors might cut off power if it doesn't detect enough energy for it to be 'on,' but I've had my console on a surge protector since I got it on September 2014, so
this is a new thing. Did Microsoft release an update that could be causing it?

    :)

    Games won't start.

Fully shut down the console then reboot.

Most people seem to use Instant on mode.

Instant on mode is basically the equivalent of sleep mode on PC. When the console is off in instant on mode it's not really off and any glitches preventing games from loading will remain in memory.

You need to do a full shut down to fix problems like this. Just press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds until the console shuts down. Once the light on the power brick has turned orange you should disconnect the power for a few minutes before
plugging back in and switching on again.

If your problem is caused by instant on mode then doing this should fix it.

How to connect external hard drive?

plug the harddrive in, make sure you are using the usb3.0 cable, then fully shut down the console, not instant on but fully off, then start it up again, go to settings-storage and select the drive for games and apps.

The surge protector could be causing the issue. This is because the power bar for the console has a built in surge protector.

However, in Instant On mode you should be using your voice to turn off the console. Using the controller to turn it off will turn it off completely.

I bought my console without Kinect. I've been turning it off with my controller and it's been on surge protector ever since I got it and for the most part, the Instant-On function works. When I would turn it on, it would just go. No start up or anything.
So, like I said, this has to be a new thing. Possibly something brought on by an update or some such. Then again, I only said "frequently" and not "always." I was just wondering in case anyone noticed it with their own console. Hopefully it's just some random
thing that'll pass and I'm worrying about nothing.

Ah, I see. Thanks for that info.

Try holding the power button on the console for 10 seconds until it shuts down to see if that helps then.

Your disk may be dirty or damaged error?

All the power cycle does is power it down completely. If you have the console set to Instant On it never actually shuts down fully, so shutting it down fully once in a while by way of a power cycle is beneficial as it resolves a few problems, hopefully including
    your disc drive issue.
