    Console Heating up in Standby

For some odd reason, my console seems to be warmer than usual when in Standby mode, almost of it were On. I've only recently noticed this problem, and have had the console since last Fall.

Was there some sort of update that *** everything up? I'll start by mentioning that the console is completely free from obstructions that might cause ventilation blocks, so this is not an issue. My room temperature has not changed in any way. Sometimes it
gets so warm that I actually hear the fan spool up just to cool it off for a bit.

This never occurred before, and it has caused me enough concern to change my Power Settings to Energy-Saving until I figure out what is going on.

    Anyone have any clues?

    :)

    xbox heating up!

Try taking the back of the casing out to prevent overheating. You shouldn't get banned for just taking off the back case, just don't touch the software itself. I do the same thing to the house computer nowadays.

Hi there, I've had my console since launch and never noticed this. As long as your console is working and is not giving you any problems I don't think it's anything to worry about. When the console starts to get above a certain temp it's natural for the
fan to speed up to cool it down. If your that worried about though you can try doing a hard reset on your console by holding the power button the front of the console until it turns off then unplug it from the outlet for 30 sec then plug back in and see if
it's still doing it. Hopefully not but if it is and it's working fine I don't think it's anything to worry about.

Alright, after a long period of turning the console on and off, placing it in standby and then a full power-down, I've come to the conclusion that it's software related.

The problem occurs with the Twitch app. When you have the app open and you're watching a stream, DO NOT put the console in standby without exiting the stream first. If you go into standby during a broadcast, it seems to leave the console in a state of
suspension. Meaning, it never really stops running in standby mode, causing it to heat up as if it was actually powered up.

Microsoft, this needs fixing. And for for petes sake, can you please add a sleep timer already for those of us that watch TV and Twitch at night? I hate falling asleep having left it on all night.

    Xbox Series X hold

If you mean place it in standby, yes, this is normal

The fan will engage after a certain temperature threshold. System maintence tasks like downloading updates will generate heat, but not enough to be an issue. This is no different from any other Xbox One and up console.

    Series X Fan always running?

I would say it is. Even on standby, all the internal components generate heat, so Microsoft have probably played it safe to keep the fan always on tickover.

    Xbox One S fan noise

I’ve check internet and there’s a lot of videos and posts about that problem. My console sounds the same way. It propably has something to do with fan bearing.
Can you link to such a video, so we can listen to a console behaving like that?

The thing is, people hear sound subjectively different. For example I have my console in my living room with a surround speaker system, and can't hear the fan at all, while a friend of mine has their console in their bedroom right next to the bed, and she
says the fan noise is driving her insane. Even though she has the quieter S model.

Do you hear the noise mainly when the console is running, or if you shut the console into "connected standby"? Because if the console is turned off in standby, you can hear the hard drive clicking when the console is updating games and it's own software.
Also, the fan can be heard, since the console needs to get rid of the heat when working on the updates in standby.
