Console having trouble starting up, and freezing during gameplay.

About a week ago my Xbox wouldn't turn on, it made the start-up noise but the power light and console wouldn't start up. I looked online for help and thought it might be the power supply, so I borrowed my friend's working Xbox One power supply, even tried
other outlets throughout my home, and it still wouldn't start up at all. So I sent it out to be repaired because it is still under warranty.

I got it back today with a note stating that the Microsoft support team tested my console extensively and found no issues. I hooked it back up, and it started! I was pretty excited because it came back a lot sooner than I thought it would, and seemed to be
working now, so no harm done. Then it froze after playing Destiny for about an hour. I backed out to the dashboard and restarted the game without issue, and tried again. Over the next couple of hours, the game froze 3 more times and forced me to restart the
game. I figured that I would try a hard reset of the console to see if it would help, and now it's crashing just on startup. Not every time, but about 2 out of 3 attempts at starting the console up, it either shuts back down while booting up, or shuts itself
off a few minutes after pulling up the dashboard. I'm not sure what the problem is, but I really just want to play Destiny. Should I send it in for another work order? I don't want to have it just sent back if they don't find any issues.

Console Freezing During Gameplay?

I'm now coming to the conclusion that it's installed games. The low quality hard drive is now taking all steps where it's now spinning constantly during loading times where the disc would normally do. Or maybe it's the update that allows games to be optimized
for installation, either way, it's not working no matter what I'm doing.

I clear Cache on a nightly basis and I've realised all games which have froze have been installed. And the 4 glitches happened after the latest new dashboard update too. It's got to stop but it doesn't seem to be a problem for everyone so it's not a problem
for Microsoft? It just turns me off playing where I've got to a part of a level and I've almost completed everything and it just freezes for nothing. There's no redemption apart from people telling me to clear my cache or delete memory!!

Do you plug your console into a power outlet with a surge protector by any chance? Have you tried your console without? Did you try plugging it in directly to the mains?

It's plugged into a surge protector now. I haven't tried other power configurations yet since getting it back from Microsoft. I didn't think that would matter since it didn't help at all before I sent it for maintenance, and because I had never had any issues
with it up until this point either. I'll try that today though, could something have happened to the electricity in my home to make that happen? I haven't had any issues with any other devices yet.

 

I just tried it again in a different room directly plugged into an outlet that had nothing else plugged into it. It started up, but shut down again after a few minutes.

Your console ideally should not be plugged into a plug with surge protection or any plug adaptors with surge protection. The reason is because the console's power supply unit already has a surge protector built in. If you plug your console into a surge protector
you are double surge protecting it. This, in many, cases will cause power instability. This instability will then manifest into various system issues, such as games and apps crashing, console failing to boot.

It doesn't really matter if your other devices plugged in do not have problems, most likely they don't have their own surge protectors and do not draw the same amount of power as your console.

Pleas try plugging your console directly into the mains and let us know if the issue goes away.

Console booting up, then going off seconds or a minute into turning on was the same issue I had with my first Xbox One. I had a second replacement which would crash and pause and eventually did the same thing as the previous console - it simply wouldn't
stay on.

On the third replacement, we finally found the issue. The power adaptor I was using must have been faulty. I plugged last replacement machine directly into the mains on the wall outlet, no problems since.

My previous advice still stands though. You should not use a surge protector. It will cause power issues which can damage to your machine. I think you may have to set up an exchange again. Test the machine on a few more
outlets, do not use adaptors with extra plugs. Please try to power your console directly from the wall socket.

If it won't stay on, the chances are it won't stay on for MS if you sent to for service again.

When you get the working replacement, only connect to the mains. You can use a mains adaptor, but you must be sure not to overload it, and it must have no surge protection or the surge protection must be turned off.

That's probably it then. I'll see if I can send it out again. I'm just still worried they'll send it back, but we'll see, I'll see if I can talk to an agent or something this time when I set up the exchange.
