Console has no beep and very slow

XBOX 360 Slim

So I tried to turn on my console and it went on, but with no beep, it is the same with the disk tray button. When the console turned on it was really slow, it took about 3 minutes for it to load up the sign in page, and another 5 mins to sign in. When I
turn my console off it seems to shut down but the fans still carry on and the green light on the power box stays illuminated.

I have tried unplugging all leads and turning of power source however the situation remains the same. Any other suggestions?

Hey there Meister! 30 seconds doesn't really seem overly long, but here's something you can try to see if it helps. Clear the console update by going to system, settings, storage. Then press the following button sequence:

LB, RB, X, LB, RB, X

Your console will restart after this and you might need to redownload an update. See if that helps at all, though! ^_^

Also check the drive for corrupt files.

Corrupt files can cause it to take ages to load up. I've noticed corrupt avatar files seem to slow load up times by a lot.

 

What size hard drive do you have and where did you purchase it from? Have you tried removing the hard drive and seeing if you still have load problems that way?

As for the light issue it sounds as though you have the background downloads turned on. What you are experiencing on shut down is a direct result of the background download keeping your console and Cloud service updated.

 

I believe it is a 4GB console, however when I first got it a friend replaced it with a premium 60GB hard drive which cause no problems.

I am not sure where it came from possibly Argos, the warranty has ran out now though.

I have also turned the background downloads off a while back, so I am pretty sure it is not that causing the problem.

Well, there's your problem. The hard drive your friend supplied is not an official hard drive. Only 250 and 320GB hard drives can be used in the console.

Also, if your friend broke open the console and installed the hard drive that you are using there is nothing anyone can do further to help you as modding consoles is strictly forbidden according to the ToU and CoC of the Live service and could result and
the console and/or gamertag being banned from the service altogether.

 

It is just that this was done 4 years ago, and the problem has only just occurred. When it was done it wasn't for any modding or game breaking purposes, it was to simply give me more than 4GB memory. I wasn't aware that could result in banning as it doesn't
really affect anyone but me. I hope it doesn't result in such drastic effect, I meant no harm and could really do without a big problem like that.

 

Oh and it was an old console hard drive that was used from my failed Xbox 360, not an unofficial one. So I didn't think modding was involved apart from replacing a hard drive.

 

No matter what parts were used or where they came from it doesn't matter. Because the console was modded you cannot get any help from the forums or xbox themselves.

You'll simply have to buy a new console.
