    I am not part of the preview program, I quit the program long ago after they started applying 200-600MB updates daily for a week or so.

    Been off of the program about a 4+ months.

    Got a console update a couple days ago and it went smooth.. Was messing with my settings and saw that automatic console updates were turned off, so I turned it on.. About a few hours after I went to bed, I heard my console going crazy booting itself on and
    shutting itself off.

    Woke up this morning and am greeted with the new XBox setup screen. It formatted my whole console overnight, for no reason. Great product Microsoft.. Any explanations? Thought this bug was patched and only happened to preview members.

    All of my XBox games I've downloaded are still here, all my clips and screenshots are still here. all my profiles are not here.. So it looks like my friends that come over, and made profiles without remembering them.. Just don't have access to the progress
    we've made together because their profiles are no longer here. Also that means that the person that sold me the XBox and gave me his account to use for Netflix.. Is no longer on here, and I don't go to school anymore so we have no contact.

    OH GOODY ANOTHER UPDATE AFTER I GOT MY CONSOLE UP AND RUNNING, hopefully it ruins my experience even more. First every controller I buy from y'all develops stick drifts in a day to a month, now my console formats itself. Thanks for stickin in me Microsoft,
    I love you and your products.

    Sounds like it's a bug with the July update. No issues with my consoles though.

    Gears of War 3 unreadable disk

    These games are using a new disk format that have the update on them. I think if you delete the actual console update to read the new format and download it again it will work.

    You can try to perform an offline system update. Keep in mind that an offline update will require a 6gb usb flash drive (format
    it as NTFS    )

    Follow the solution to "I need to update my console offline" for the full steps.

    Although you may want to see if simply removing your profile from the xbox and adding it back fixes it first. (Sometimes this works when I've had strange bugs going on).

    This is perform an offline update for your console. In that way Xbox system will be installed from scratch and delete all possible bugs/glitches with your TV.

    Indeed not. The $0.50 charge is a one-time deal to keep Microsoft in compliance with COPPA's recent update, and is unrelated to the system update. System updates are semi-frequent, and designed to keep the operating system on par with the latest coding
    rollouts, fixing bugs, re-organizing content based on new formats and layouts, etc.
