Console Causes Large Circular Scratch On Disk

I was about to start playing Red Dead Redemption, and I leaned over my Xbox to get to a disk case.

During that, I ended up nudging the console a little, and after that the Xbox made a horrible grinding noise and when I ejected the disk it had a large, circular scratch about 5mm across all along the outside of the disk, which can no longer be read.

Both the console and the disk were bought years ago, is there anything that I can do? The scratch looks to be too deep for anything to be done to repair the disk. Do I just have to buy a new copy of the game?

Hey there, matey!

I am afraid this scratch will prevent you (the majority of the time) from playing that disc, which I understand must be extremely frustrating (I know how yah feel man, it happened to me once before). This kind of scratch is most commonly created by the console
being moved whilst a disc is inside. It can also be cause by some kind of dirt, or small object inside your disc tray. In terms of that, I would recommend ejecting your disc tray and just lightly wiping it with a dry cloth and make sure there is no dust/dirt/rattling
objects in there. Please do not take the console apart in attempt to fix this as it is against the CoC and voids any warranty to the console.

Your local game stores can fix this by taking the disc and putting it in this machine they have which removes a layer off the disc and takes the affected area (the scratch) and isn't expensive at all, potentially fixing your disc. Other than that, I would
recommend cleaning it with a damp cloth, but there is no guarantee that it will be fully functional again afterwards. Best of the best things to do would be to purchase a new copy of the disc.

Also, is it just this one disc or has it occured to other discs as well?

Circular scratch

So I got home one day and tried to play madden 25 but a disk error came up so I looked at the disk and it had that circular scratch, and I have no idea what to do or how to fix it, and it happened around early September and I still have no clue what to
do, so please help

on the back of the CD there is a circular scratch? because if there is not you can take it from some electronics store and you leverage the scratch .. if there is a circular scratch on the CD you can even throw in the trash .. the digital version of the
game you have to buy on the store .. you could install the game on the hard disk by a disk of your friend but is not guaranteed to work because your disk is damaged .. if I were you I would try to install the game from another drive and see if it works ..
it does not work buy it again but used ..

If you get the error message stating that the disk is unreadable, it means that scratches on the disk are preventing the xbox to read the disk correctly.

If it is only 'small scratches', it is not much to worry about. Simply wipe the disk with a damp cloth, dry with a soft cloth,(When you wipe the disk, do not wipe in a circular motion as this can damage this disk, rub it in a vertical motion and make your
way around the whole of the disk) and place back in your xbox. This seems to work with me, however if you have a circular scratch that goes around the whole of your disk, it is harder to fix, and so you should see your local gaming store to clean the disk
at a cheap cost.

Circular scratches in a disc are caused by movement of the console when it is on and a disc is inside. How do you have your console set in the playspace? Is it laying flat or standing on end?

The only time my Xbox got hungry and ate my disk was when I moved it. Totally wrecked the game with a huge circular scratch.
