Console can't read some game discs

This is second Xbox One with this issue - some games will not start including one brand new one. The bluray drive searches for the disc and then stops, or sometimes comes up with error stating that I need to use a compatible disc. Only seems to be games
affected, and then only some of them. I've tried everything suggested by MS, but wondering if anyone else has had this issue and how you fixed it.

Any suggestions for a reputable repair shop in Dundee area would also be appreciated.

ALL XBOX360 backwards compatibility DVD's are unreadable on XBOX One X!

May I point some things out.

Xbox one games on disc are stored on Blu-ray discs. Only the Xbox 360 and the original Xbox use the 'DVD' format.

What difference does this make?

All Blu-ray drives can read DVD discs as well as BD discs, but the laser diode to read DVD discs work at a different frequency to Blu-ray. As I understand it, these diodes are contained in the same package in the drive.

If a hardware fault occurs with the drive, it may manifest with ability to still read BD discs but not DVD, or the other way round.

If your console can't Xbox 360 games, but can read Xbox One games, it usually means the drive is faulty.

Xbox 360 Discs wont play on Xbox One

Hi,

I'm sorry you're having issues with your console recognising Xbox 360 games. The end your post says your console can't read DVD discs either, is that correct?

If your console can't read Movie DVD's either then I'm afraid that means your Xbox One has a hardware issue with the Blu-ray drive. The Xbox One Blu-ray drive has a laser that can read both types of disc, however, it sounds to me like the part of the drive
that reads DVD discs is faulty (Xbox 360 games are on DVD disc format).

To get this corrected you'll have to send your console to Microsoft for a repair.

unplug the system fully then plug it back in.

and try again. it should work. i surprise the video did not work i made the video and i do that trick every time and it works,

To be honest it looks like the drive is faulty. A factory reset of the console didn't work either so doesn't look like a software fault. thanks for the help though.

I had this issue as well. Later it turned into the Xbox One can't read any blu ray disc but only regular DVD. I had to send it to Microsoft to get it repaired. Lucky for me it was still under warranty.

No, the game remains on the list. I believe there might be some problem with the disc, some writing error that the console can't read the game license correctly.

To be able to see if the game is BC and download the game, your console most be able to read the disc.

Check if your console can read other 360 discs ok. if it can, try cleaning the disc. If that does not work get the disc replaced.

If your console can't read other 360 games, or DVD disc movies, then the fault is with the console.

It's not been removed from backwards compatibility. I would say the reason why your console is displaying this error is because it can't read this particular disc. Do you have any other Xbox 360 game discs to test on your Xbox One? If you do, are they
working?

When you insert a backwards compatible Xbox 360 game disc into your Xbox One, the console will read the disc to see what's there. If your console can't read the disc it will display this message. For disc based games you must be connected to Xbox Live
as the game will need to be downloaded for you to play it.

Things to try

Verify your console can still read Xbox 360 discs.

If you don't have any other BC 360 games on disc, try a DVD movie. Make sure the disc you try is a DVD movie disc not a Blu-ray disc. If other Xbox 360 games disc work or a DVD movie, it's likely the fault lies with the disc and not the console.

Check the discs for scratches or dirty smudges. Try cleaning the disc with some water and soft towel

A dying or dead DVD optical drive on that old 360 would be the issue here, not the disc.

The original Xbox 360 spec had a maximum DVD size for 360 titles at 6.8GB. Later in the Xbox 360 lifestyle a drive firmware update allowed all 360 consoles to read discs of 7.8GB in size. There was an isolated issue with some 360 consoles not being able
to read later titles because of hardware faults with some earlier 360 consoles with different DVD drives.

Regardless, if your Xbox One can read the game but the old 360 can't, the fault is with your old 360, not the game disc.
