Console bricked DUE TO UPDATE

My console was purchased as a gift for my son for Xmas 2012. Its a year and a half old, max. The recent update that was REQUIRED to download and install is in an endless loop on my console and wont even allow me to access the dashboard. It boots, goes directly
to a "update is downloading" black screen, goes through that and says it cant be applied. I contacted support and we went through all steps- diconnecting from the network and trying it off the HD, using a CD to try to install it, using a USB device, all off
and on the network. Their only solution in to send it in at $100 to have it fixed. WHY ON EARTH WOULD I HAVE TO PAY $100 TO FIX A PROBLEM I WASNT HAVING PRIOR TO THE MANDITORY UPDATE? This problem lays on MS 100% but we the customers are
the ones who are left to pay for it. This is completely unacceptable and seeing how I am not the only person to have this problem, i say MS needs to step up to the plate and take action and accept responsibility. If I hadnt already bought a XBone, i would
swear off MS completely for this load of crap. If anyone has had this problem, and managed to fix it (per ToS or not, please let me know how)

Never buying another Xbox

MS would never admit that their update bricked your console, yet it has happened before. One comes to mind where one console was even falsely banned, and someone here said it was due to. 'a corrupted update.'

Umm. if you count another who joined the 'preview program' then dl their update which in turn bricked their console. Then that would be two.

I have 2 consoles as well. The new black (4GB) one had no problems with the update. The original white one (well, actually replaced previous due to the common heat caused RROD) just bricked with the update.

 

Unfortunately, they've already stated a system update will not brick a console. The $100 fee is due to your console being out of warranty. You'll have to pay it or buy a new system.

 

Ok, the update didn't "brick" my system. But this update is the cause of the problem. Period. It had full functionality prior to the update. The update won't complete so it won't allow me access to any of it. I understand the warranty part, but how does
this fall as end users mess that requires repair AT A FEE? Keep in mind.... It worked perfectly fine prior to the update

 

Systems tend to start going out after a while. It just so happens yours did this with the update. It's frustrating, but unfortunately you'll have to pay.
