  1. Console and game compatibility

    Hi there fellow parents,

In an attempt to get 'with the times' and join my son in the types of activities he likes, I decided to buy a Xbox One console at home. He has a Xbox 360. I figured I could buy a game once and subsequently install on both consoles and we could play together.
But I can't seem to find a clear answer to that.

I.e. there are several digital games that are available for both the XBOX One and 360. Do I have to buy them twice? Specifically there are a slew of 360 game titles that are compatible with the One.

What I would like to do is this :

    1. Buy a Xbox 360 game once on the Xbox One. (digital copy)

    2. Install it on both our consoles in the house.

    3. Play with my son through Xbox Live. (He on his 360 and me on the One, so that we can run things like campaign modes etc.)

    4. I want to play using my Live ID, and he uses his ID

Is this possible at all? If so how, or is there a guide somewhere? If not, is there another way I can buy one copy for our home, but use with different Live IDs in the home on 2 different consoles?

    :)

    Backwards compatibility is non-exsistant?

Why is backwards compatibility such a huge issue for some people?

    - The backwards compatibility of the Xbox 360 with the Xbox was extremely limited, some consoles didn't even have it.

    - The backwards compatibility of the PS3 with PS2 was for launch consoles and became non-existent within 6 months of launch.

    - The cost of adding backwards compatibility to the Xbox One would be offset by an even higher price tag, estimating between $75 to $150 per console.

    - The durability, heat, and size of the console is reduced by not having to bother with hardware backwards compatibility with the Xbox 360, software backwards compatibility was disappointing and would have still increased the cost of the console to offset
the development time into creating it, if it was at all possible.

Fact of the matter is: The Xbox One is a better, cheaper, more reliable console without backwards compatibility, Essentially, don't buy an Xbox One until there are Xbox One Games that you want. Keep your Xbox 360 for your existing Xbox 360 games.

  3. Why I believe the Xbox One should lose the Kinect these are my 11 reasons why

Wii can play Game Cube games and Wii-U can play Wii games (most if not all).

Also PS2 could play PS1 games and PS3 (early models) could play PS1 and PS2 games.

Consoles have had backwards compatibility through various methods in the past - emulators, etc.; I'm referring to TRUE backwards compatibility - being able to put ANY game from a previous console into a newer console & have it automatically work without
having to jump through any hoops to do so. In both of your examples, neither can play ALL of the original console's games. So, my point still stands - no console has ever had TRUE backwards compatibility.

  4. Console and game compatibility

You would need to have a copy of the game for each console, a 360 version and a One version. But you also need to be on the same type of console to game together.

People on a 360 can only game on-line with other people on a 360, and vice versa.

The only game I know of where you can play on the x1 and 360 at the same time and on the same servers is World of Tanks.

    Hi there,

Most games are not digitally up or downgradable.

and the games (accept World of Tanks) are not cross platform.

What is possible is to play 360 games that are backwards compatable for the One with your son when you are on the One and he is on the 360, but you both will need to own the game.

See this link for all backward compatible games:

    Backwards compatibility

    If the game is
    backwards compatible
and you have a physical version, you can insert the disc into your console and wait for the game to be downloaded on the console (compatible version).

Old NTSC/A games on new PAL console

It's highly likely that it will not work. Some Xbox 360 games are compatible on both NSTC(A) and PAL console, but not all of them. As for an original Xbox game that compatibility is far less likely.

The NTSC version of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon is backwards compatible, but the PAL version is not. Which means it probably won't be compatible on a PAL console.
