    Connection Sound Bar Using HDMI

I want to connect my Vizio sound bar using HDMI ARC. My sound bar has this option (two HDMI ports). I tried the optical connection first and it worked fine, but hooking everything up using HDMI is not working for sound, only for video. Here's my setup...I
have a UHD Samsung TV, Cisco cable box, Xbox One, and a Vizio S5451w-C2 sound bar. Again, the Vizio sound bar has a HDMI ARC connection option. I have my connections set up as follows ALL WITH HDMI CONNECTIONS::

Cable box --> Xbox One --> Vizio sound bar (HDMI Input) --> Vizio sound bar (HDMI Output)--> Samsung UHD TV (HDMI ARC port)

I can get video just fine using this connection, but NO sound. My TV settings are good to go, but I'm wondering if there is some Xbox audio setting that is the final piece to this puzzle. Currently, my "HDMI audio" is set to "5.1 uncompressed" and "Bitstream
format" is set to "DTS Digital Surround". Are these correct?

    :)

    Xbox one optical update?

i have not tried the optical out directly on the xb1... i have run my dolby surround on a (out) for my tv... i guess i should try it off my xb1 and see if i get the update??

it would make no sense to me that it would only work with a headset/astros/tb... to get the update thru a plug in on the controller..

i have used my xb1 hdmi out to my tv and used the coax/aux audio output to my digital bar... games like bf4 have changed compared to convential speaker/tv speakers... but forza5 sounds the same... and really in twitch streams it dosnt have the output/digital feed like it would on personal console/game..

so if it was bundled in with the update i got it.. if i had to connect some other way than i did not or was not prompted to at any point that i connected the soundbar.

    i followed this:
Connect Xbox One to Your Home Theater or Sound System

Audio receiver with optical or sound bar

This is a slightly more complicated configuration that may require cables other than HDMI cables. This option provides full surround sound from your television set-top box. It’s best for older A/V receivers that either don’t have an HDMI port or don’t support audio over HDMI.

Connect your set-top box HDMI output to the Xbox One HDMI input.
Connect the Xbox One HDMI output to the HDMI input on your television.
Connect the audio output from the television to the audio input on the sound bar using either HDMI or Optical S/PDIF cables.

unless i am missing something my coax wont plug in to the back of my xb1.. i have to go directly from the tv.

    Connection Sound Bar Using HDMI

For reference, HDMI ARC is meant for a TV to send the sound it receives from something like its digital TV tuner "upstream" to your soundbar.

The way you have it set up physically is correct, just that its not depending on ARC (Xbox One audio gets stripped from the HDMI cable by your soundbar and sends the video onto your TV).

Try changing the audio setting on the Xbox One to Stereo Uncompressed, make sure the soundbar isn't muted, etc. Maybe your Soundbar doesn't support 5.1 uncompressed, but 5.1 compressed Dolby Digital or DTS.

Xbox One X setup with Soundbar

Thanks. My Soundbar supports 4k Passthrough so I don't need to use optical - as far as I can tell
Since your soundbar supports 4K Passthrough you should connect your Xbox One HDMI to the sound bar then connect the sound bar HDMI to your TV with HDMI 2.0 or 2.1 cables for best results like Leemur60 said.

    Audio set up issues

I’m very happy with mine too, however, when I use the sound bar for pass through and select arc I get no sound or picture and have to run it through the hdmi option. If I connect the Xbox to the tv hdmi 2 and then the sound bar to hdmi 3(arc) I get picture
with no sound despite all settings suggesting that it should work. If I use an in built app on the tv and watch it through arc it works perfectly. All mildly frustrating.

does the sound bar pass the full hdmi came with the same hdmi version. Also have you tried to useing an optical cable on your sound bar? also has it ever worked with the sound bar in the loop?
