    Connection problems need help


    So for about just over a week my xbox live has been really dodgy what happens is I can be in a game or even on the dashboard and I'll just randomly disconnect for but only for a couple of seconds and almost straight away it will recconect but it's a problem
    because it will kick me out if the game and party if I'm in one, talked to xbox support in Twitter and everything they suggested didn't there is also no problem with my internet please help.

    Please don't buy a Linksys if you don't have to. They are going through a transition from Cisco to Belkin. Official Xbox Networking Specialists suggest getting Netgear WNR2000v3, Netgear WNDR3400 or higher in the series, and D-Link DIR-655. Those all work
    great with the Xbox, as well as multiple Xboxes. If your speeds are .49 upload, that's really not going to cause the lag you're having. Anything under .30 and you might have more of a problem. Did you run those speed tests while wired into the router or the
    modem?

    Okay thanks that helped a little because when i search for a game on cod. it usually only finds 10-12 good games, now its finding at least 18. but i dont know if this makes a difference or anything but when i play with friends. i lag a lot more then normal.
    is there a reason for that? or should DMZ fix that to?

    The things I'd look at if I have online issues.

    Hard reset the console ( when the console is on, hold the button on front of console for 10 seconds until it shuts down, leave for a few minutes then fire it back up.

    Are you wired or wireless? if wireless, is it possible for you to try a cable to see if that solves it. Even if your using a cable, have you another one to try? I've had it in the past where somehow my Ethernet cable just somehow broke lol

    Have you run a network test? "Detailed" one, what's your NAT type saying, Open, Moderate or Strict?

    You say there is no problem with you internet but do you know this from speaking to your own broadband provider? I ask because I'm with BT, when I've had issues in the past I've checked the BT status page, everything says fine but these pages can take a
    while to update any problems but when I've actually spoke to someone on the phone they did say there were issues. Would be worth phoning them if you haven't already.

    No doubt I've missed out some things here, still not quite awake lol but post back and let us know. I'm sure someone will be able to help/point you in the right direction if any of the above doesn't work.

    I did forget something ..

    Your not with Virgin Media by any chance? I have 2 friends that have had issues in the last few days and Virgin did post that they have been doing some work in some areas.

    I have been lagging in game for a few days now, at first i thought it was just a lag spike but its been continuing for a while now. In game it says i have a 4 bar of connection but i am skipping around the map. I checked my network settings and my connection
    to the network is a 2 bar. I then went into detailed network settings and it says my wireless strength is only 65% and my packet loss is 1% when all my friends have no packet loss and have high wireless strength. How can i improve my wireless strength to stop
    me lagging? Thanks!

    I'm not sure about how to mess around myself with your modem settings etc, obviously depends which broadband provider you are with but have you tried phoning them?

    I'm with BT and in the past we had an issue of my daughters iPad not connecting wireless and when it did it kept dropping, we phoned BT and they switched the wireless channel from their end and it sorted it.
