Connection Issues

Hi. I have recently upgraded to a Nokia Lumia 1020, from an older Lumia model. I'm unable to sign into my Microsoft account though, every time I try to do so a message comes up saying that there may not be a decent signal strength or a problem with Live
yesterday. This happens every time, enough if I'm using WiFi. Does anybody know what is wrong? I am still signed in on my previous phone as well, so could this be the reason for the error message?

Anyone else having issues? My internet seems to be fine, but I've been routinely kicked pretty much all day

Me and @JDemon751 were playing earlier and things were fine.

 

At what point are you trying to sign into the Microsoft Account (MSA)? Is it during the initial setup of the phone or after that by going into Settings/email+accounts?

Being signed into the other phone is *not* the reason, as you can be signed into multiple Windows Phones without issue (5 or 8, as I recall).

Walk me through the steps you are taking and if you could provide the exact error message and error code (if there is one), that would be immensely helpful.

One thing to try: do you have two-step verification activated on your MSA? If so, you need to generate an app password at
Sign in to your Microsoft account and use that during sign-in on your phone, rather than the normal password you use.

Let us know, and we'll try to resolve this with you.

 

I'm trying to sign in on the games tab, at the point where it says to sign in or join. There's no error code, but it says to check my reception, and it then goes on to say that if I have good reception, then the error may be at the other end, and then to
try again later. As far as I know I don't have an app password, but I'll certainly look into that option. I'll keep you updated, but thanks for the help so far.

 

I received a code through the link provided, but its still saying that it can't connect

 

Have you recently tried power cycling your device? Hold the power button for a few seconds and then swipe down the screen to turn it off completely and then again press the power button for a few seconds to turn it back on.

I don't know why you would be getting service alerts, but it's possible they're persisting after one that actually occurred at some point and hopefully restarting your device will rectify that.

It would also be worth doing it over WiFi and power cycling the router.

 

I have now been able to connect, I kept trying and eventually it allowed me to. Still not sure what the problem was, but at least its working now. Thank you for your help though
