Connecting XBOX ONE for the very first time

I just purchased my XBOX ONE a few days ago. I want to set it up right now but seeing that the Social and Gaming is set to limited..so I am nervous about turning on the xbox one for the first time..can I still download system updates, etc..or should I just
keep it off for now..I dont want anything to happen to the xbox one since I Just got it

Sign into LIVE with the account that has the achievements when you get internet.

Is this the only way? As it will cause trouble as i want to use the email and GT that i currently have online. Surely i wouldn't be able to sign in on the xbox with the same details and it would clash?

You should be OK to set up your console. I haven't had any connection problems for the last day or so on social or gaming.

Neither of those should affect you. You need Core Services to be running to set up your console.

Thanks SO much for your help..downloaded the system update everything went fine..even downloaded a few apps after a few times of trying. My XBOX ONE bundle came with TWO codes for 14 day free trial of xbox live..so I scanned them both using my Kinect but
I have no way to check to see how long I have left to use XBOX LIVE or if one code overwrited the other how do I check?

Go to setting on the left scroll down to subscriptions it will it will show there.
