Connecting via Laptop after WiFi Adapter Change

Hi all. Thank you for clicking and (hopefully) reading.

Today, I fixed a problem that had been plaguing my laptop for some time and got it to recognize its internal WiFi adapter. This, unfortunately, broke my Xbox 360's connection to the network.

Previously, I was running the Xbox in to my laptop via ethernet, and the laptop to the gateway via a Cisco AE1200 USB adapter. I had configured static IP addresses for the Xbox and the ethernet port. By pointing the Xbox to the ethernet port's address, and
then the ethernet port to the laptop's address, I was able to get out to the internet on the Xbox and thus out to Xbox Live. [It should be noted here that this was because connection sharing and bridging did not work previously]

This unfortunately has ceased working after fixing the internal adapter (Intel Centrino Advanced-N 1000). I adjusted the ethernet port's gateway and DNS server to point to the laptop's new IP address, but it was no use.

I then began following a number of guides, both from Microsoft and from the internet at large on how I could be able to get my Xbox connected again via ethernet-laptop-wifi combo. I have tried guides which involve Internet Connection Sharing, which does
not work. I am unable to connect to the computer, when running the "Test PC Connection" test. I then tried guides on internet connection bridging, bridging the ethernet port to the wifi adapter. This did not work. For whatever reason, the automatic network
configuration for the Xbox was trying to assign an IP address which didn't follow any other address nomenclature on the network - something like 168.254.x.x while everything else is 192.168.x.x.

I have a feeling this is either a firewall issue with the laptop, or a gateway issue.

I am running a Motorola SBG6580 gateway and Windows 7.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    :)

    Windows 10 streaming without TV?

there is a delay over wifi but it works. you can speed things up by connecting your xbox and laptop via wire to your router.

Cannot connect to internet via WiFi to reach XBOX Live

    Dear support group,

I am having trouble connecting to the internet via WiFi. System is connecting via ethernet connection. Problems started about a week ago when the power supply started acting up and shutting the system down. I did go through all the suggested problem
shooting steps, with no avail. WiFi is working and is strong enough, as tested with laptop which is working fine. Please note that console worked fine with WiFi until about a week ago. Is it possible that the WLAN card IN the console is defective? Can I order
a new one or can I buy a wireless adapter instead?

    Console:

    XBOX 360 S

    Model: 1439

    thanks!

Connecting XB1 to shared laptop wifi

The laptop is connected via Ethernet to my router. The aim of connecting via my laptops wifi is to enable me to access a greater selection on Netflix.

Does the Xbox One actually allow connections via ad-hoc wireless networks?

Connecting to XBl via Intel MyWifi

The laptop is connected to the internet via WiFi. I've resolved the password mismatch issue and now the xbox is just having issues connection to the laptop. I believe it has to do with the channel the laptop is broadcasting on.

    Laptop problem

It's weird that it is turning off when powered, and on when not. That seems like a configuration got switched? Usually there is a setting to turn off unneeded features and items when on battery to save on power.

Is your laptop connected via WiFi or wired? I would guess wifi, but don't want to make assumptions.

I would start with going to Settings > Network > Wi-Fi (or Ethernet) and then select "Change adapter options" on the right column. From there right click on the adapter you're using (wifi or ethernet) and then select Properties. On the Properties page
click "Configure" and go to the Power Management Tab. See if anything in there is set to toggle the device on or off in a set of circumstances.

My earbuds are not working well

So if I understand you correctly, you are streaming from your console to your laptop, and you have your controller connected to the laptop with your earbuds connected to the controller?

How is your controller connected to the laptop? Via MicroUSB cable or via the Xbox wireless adapter for Windows 10?
