Thank You Hassassinade, but it did not work. I`m not sure, but I think that it didn´t work becouse the tutorial is for Mac Os Snow Leopard, not for Mac Os X Lion (the one I have).

You can, only thing you need is the Xbox One app.

It depends on what you want to do with the connection.

If you want to stream media from your iMac to your Xbox console, you will simply need a DLNA compliant server that you can put on your iMac. For example
    Serviio will do that.

If you want to stream gameplay from your Xbox One to your Mac, you will need to use Bootcamp to prepare room for a Windows 10 installation, get Windows 10 and install that on your iMac, and then use the Xbox App to stream your gameplay to your iMac running
    Windows 10.

    Hi Arminator

Yes it will be to stream gameplay to my Mac, so I will have a look at Bootcamp and see how to set that up. I'm sure there is plenty of vids on the net how to do it.

    Thanks fot the feedback.

    Hi Geth

So you don't have to setup a W10 environment on my Mac then?

    Connecting to iMac

    I just found out about
    OneCast
, that basically is the MacOS streaming equivalent for the Windows 10 App.

While you can't use the other Xbox App features like Party chat, social interaction and store purchases, the OneCast App for MacOS and iOS devices allows you to stream 1080p gameplay to your iMac or iOS device, and send control information back to the console.

So it basically works like the streaming for the Windows 10 Xbox App.

However, be aware, that it's not a free app. But it's much cheaper than having to buy a full Windows 10 OS. (Unless you still have an UNUSED Windows 7 or Windows 8 lying around, you can use these serial numbers to license a

    free Windows 10 download
    for your Mac).

So therefore there is no physical connection through the Mini DisplayPort just over the Home Network, is that correct.

If you wanted to connect the console physically to the iMac to use the display as a screen directly, then I can't really say, as

the instructions for connecting another device to the iMac's DisplayPort
require you to press "Command F2" on the iMac as well as (in this example) another Mac that you connected to the iMac's DisplayPort.

It's unclear, if you need to press "Command F2" on the connected Mac to tell it "You have an external display now, output to that instead of your own laptop display", or if the "Command F2" combination on the connected Mac does additional stuff to remotely
tell the iMac "Hey, show my display on your iMac screen please".

If the iMac uses "Command F2" to simply switch to the external input and display anything that pushes a video signal to the DisplayPort, then you could get a HDMI to Mini-DisplayPort adapter, and actually connect the Xbox One to the iMac display.

Also keep in mind, that only certain iMac models support the so called "Target Display Mode".

If "Target Display Mode" is just a fancy Apple-name for "Switch video input", then it should work. If however, "Target Display Mode" is an overly elaborate screen handshake protocol that requires keyboard commands from BOTH devices and somehow communicates
via DisplayPort, then I'm afraid that won't work.

OK, I will go down the OneCast route in the first instance and see if that works successfully. I did try the CMD-F2 combo with the mini DisplayPort adaptor but that did not do anything. I maybe the Xbox was set to display at 1080p instead of 720p but I'm
    just guessing.

    Hi

Many thanks for the advise for using OneCast. Downloaded the App and have it on a 2 week trial. Works a treat once I reset all the controller buttons to default! Had my doubts but it works seamlessly at the moment. Will pay for the licence if it does not
have any issues after 2 weeks.

    Regards

I have come across one issue. The controller is OK, but adding a steering wheel for car racing games is a problem. It does not seem to recognise the buttons during a game but does recognise the A / B buttons etc in the setting and home pages? I will contact
    Onecast and ask their advice.

    connecting xbox to new iMac

Hi BrianHT, my name is Adam.

To connect your Xbox Series S to your iMac, you can use an Elgato HD60 S+ device to connect the game console to your Mac computer and play games on the Mac screen.

Alternatively, you can use a mini-display-to-HDMI adapter to connect your Xbox Series S to your iMac. You can pick up these adapters from Amazon for a reasonable price. Here are the steps to connect your Xbox to your iMac using an HDMI cable:

    1. Connect the mini-display-to-HDMI adapter to the back of your iMac.
    2. Connect the HDMI cable from your Xbox to the adapter’s HDMI slot.

Once you have connected your Xbox to your iMac, you can use your iMac as an external monitor for your Xbox.

    I hope this helps.
    Adam.

    connecting to imac

    Hi there,

I'm not familiar with iMac (desktops) etc, but if it's a monitor that has an HDMI in connection then it might work (if the supported resolutions match between monitor and console)

From a quick search on google, without knowing the exact model number my first assumption is that iMac desktop do Not have any video input connections like HDMI, which makes it impossible to work as monitor for a console.
