  1. connecting to computer using ethernet cable.

    hi,

i have my xbox connected to my computer using router. both devices are in same subnet of LAN. If I connect the xbox using ethernet cable, it can't see the computer.but I have no problem with live connection and I can also use the apps like youtube.

If I connect it using wifi then everything runs without any problems. I can connect to my computer and use windows media center.

Have someone got any experience on this?

    :)

  3. Cannot connect to Xbox LIVE for weeks

I am connecting to the xbox with a single ethernet cable. I use one cable for the xbox and the internet. So if I am using the computer, I have to take the ethernet cable out of the xbox and plug it into the computer. If I need to use the xbox, I unplug the
ethernet cable from the computer and place it in the xbox. In other words, I can't be on both the computer and xbox at the same time.

Hey there, Pilot! Sorry to see that you have troubles connecting to your computer when your Xbox is wired. Hopefully I can help clear things up for you.

While you are connected to the same LAN when your Xbox is wired and your PC is wireless, it's not really the case according to the Xbox. Your Xbox recognizes wired and wireless connections slightly different, and generally won't see devices on the network that
    are wireless if it's wired.

That was a lot of wired and wirelesses!

It can depend on your router, but for Media Center specifically, you will want your console and the PC on the same type of connection. It's preferred to be wired so that you don't lose any quality, but wireless can work. If it's worked for you in the past,
keep it! connecting to computer using ethernet cable. :)

I do hope that this helps clear things up. If you need more support, do not hesitate to post back in here again. We want to make sure that you are all set up! connecting to computer using ethernet cable. :D

  5. Hi Quinzel,

    thanks for prompt answer.

Actualy my computer with media center is wired. But if I connect the xbox with router using wire then it can connect to the computer neither to media center. However it can connect to the internet (youtube application runs ok) and to the live account.

If I connect the xbox to the router using wifi it can connect to media center and to the computer too. However this is not the prefered type of connection because of bandwith that is for HD movies not enough.

  6. Aha! Thanks for clearing that up for me. I had misunderstood. connecting to computer using ethernet cable. :)

Generally, that means that you've got a firewall in your router causing the issue. Do you get an error when you try to set up Media Center while your console is wired? We can start from there to identify the problem so that we can get you streaming some HD
videos. connecting to computer using ethernet cable. :D

  7. Yes I get an Error. The console give me this xxxx-xxxx number I type into computer media center but media center can't find the extender.

If I go to settings network on console, choose wired network and try see connected PC no PCs are found. The console displays the it can reach the network but it can't reach the computer. The same with media center network check.

If I switch to wireless everything runs smoothly.

I also thought that there has to be some firewall activated in the router but, if I connect my laptop on the same cable as console was connected to, I can reach the computer, go through the shared directories and so on. All the devieces are connected to
the LAN part of the router.

I have tried to ping the console while it was wire connected but no success. Is it possible at all to ping the console? Are there any tests that I could go trough?

  8. connecting to computer using ethernet cable.

Thank you so much for the info, Pilot! It helps a lot to know that you get an error when this happens. Now let's see if we can narrow it down further.

I want you to try to connecting again where it will fail so we can get the error code from the PC. After it fails, please launch up Event Viewer (in Windows 7/Vista, hit the Start menu and type in the search bar Event Viewer, in Windows 8/8.1,
hit the Windows key on your keyboard or bring up the charms bar and hit Search, then type View event logs). Once that's fully loaded, click on the arrow/plus sign next to Applications and Services Logs, then select Media
    Center
. When the items are all loaded in there, the most recent event should be an Error or a Warning.

What I want from this is the Event ID from this Error or Warning. I can narrow down what exactly we are running into with this and get you some troubleshooting steps that may get you resolved! connecting to computer using ethernet cable. :)

  11. hi,

I checked services “SSDP Discovery” and “UPnP Device Host”. Both are started.

  12. Thanks for that clarification, Pilot! There's a bit more that we are able to do, then. connecting to computer using ethernet cable. :D

First, you'll want to disable Internet Connection Sharing in the same place that you checked the SSDP Discovery and UPnP items (in the Services program). If that doesn't work, you will want to see if your router has UPnP enabled on there, and if it might have
a "filter multicast" feature on it. You might have to refer to the router manufacturer for both of those.

If neither of those work for you, please make sure you have any biometric apps on your computer uninstalled (if you have a laptop that has a fingerprint scanner to unlock everything, that is a biometric app). Also, make sure that any 3rd party security software
is disabled. The ones that cause the specific error you're seeing are:

    • Symantec Norton AV/360/Internet Security.
    • McAfee System/Internet Security.
    • AVG Anti-Spyware.
    • Kaspersky Internet Security.
    • Comodo Firewall.
    • Threatfire.
If disabling these doesn't help you, please uninstall it to see if that fixes it.

If you don't have any of the above and are only running Windows Firewall, please make sure that the Media Center Extender is approved to go through. If it is, disable Windows Firewall temporarily to test if that might be blocking it.

Last troubleshooting step we have is to reinstall your network internet card drivers. That you will have to refer to the manufacturer of your network card.

If you have done all of these and it's still not working for you with both of them wired, your device might not be supported to do wired file transfers via Media Center Extender.

Phew. I gave you a lot to try. Hopefully something resolves this for you and we get you streaming over a full wired connection. connecting to computer using ethernet cable. :D
