Connecting to 5 ghz band?

I'm unable to connect to the 5 ghz band of my new router. It's an ASUS RT-N66R Dual Band Wireless-N900. I previously ran a Netgear N600 and finally had to replace it. I was able to connect my 360 to the 5 gig band with no problems. For some reason my 360
won't even detect the 5 gig band SSID for the ASUS. I've ran through the whole checklist from Xbox to troubleshoot this. All my other devices in the house including phones, laptop and Xbox One all detect and connect to the 5 gig network. Not an expert at the
advanced setup for a wireless network so I'm looking for a little help. Leaning towards taking the router back and getting an upgraded Netgear router if I can't rectify the current issue. Thanks in advance. Any help will be much appreciated.

:)

Xbox One wifi password

You have to excuse me, but the widely range of Technicolor gateways has always been notorious when connecting an Xbox console through one of their gateways, where wireless is more susceptible.

Does it make any different if you connect to 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz band? Or did you setup the same password for both 2.4 resp. 5 GHz?

If you have a good signal strength over 5 GHz, from where you have your console positioned, try connect to this band. But before you do this, change the password/passphrase to something that you can easily remember, consisting of 8 characters (approximately).

Installing a new replacement modem

Hello,

Does the Xbox only use the 2.4gHz frequency when connecting to Live? Does not want to connect on the 5 gHz side of the modem. Thanks, Tom.

Connecting to 5 ghz band?

Hey there TarHeelz!

Just to clarify, are you using the black, or white external wireless network adapter, for wireless connectivity with your console?

Can you visit ASUS website, to make sure your router is up-to-date with the latest version of firmware.

Did you create two different SSID? One unique name for 2,4 GHz and a unique name for 5 GHz range?

Also, make sure each SSID concists of a single Word (no spaces in between Words).

360 has the internal adapter. Firmware on router is up to date and both bands have unique SSID's. Both are single words. I've also sent Asus an email in regards to this. Still waiting on reply.
360 has the internal adapter.
As in the Xbox 360 S/E? If so, then there's a logical explanation, to why your console is unable to communicate over the 5 GHz band. The Xbox 360 S/E internal Wi-Fi chip operates in the 2.4
GHz ISM radio band for 802.11 applications. Meaning, it can't communicate over the 5 GHz band.

Xbox 360 S. If that's the case. Then why was I able to use the 5 ghz band with the netgear router? Unless the netgear was automatically dumping me to the 2.4 ghz band. Got a reply from Asus that I'll try this evening. If it doesn't work then I'll figure
something else out. Thanks. Anyone have other information I'll gladly take it. Have a good one.

Connecting to 5 ghz band?

Can you please try the following to see if that would do the trick?

Press the Guide button on your controller, go to Settings, and then select
System Settings. Select Network Settings. Select the name of your wireless network. Select
Configure Network. On the
Additional Settings tab, select Restore to Factory Defaults. When prompted, select
Yes, Restore to Factory Defaults. Note This resets the console's network settings only, and not other settings. Turn off the console. Turn on the console. Reconfigure your wireless network as it was never used before.

(FCC ID C3K1400), also known as the
Marvell 88W8786U

Thanks guys. Netgear must have switched automatically then. Even though it still showed me connected to the 5 ghz band. Anyone know how to get the 360 to connect to the 5ghz band?

I would recommend the external Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adapter (black).

Using this adapter will disable the internal wireless of your Xbox 360 S.

Connecting to 5 ghz band?

Can anyone tell me if the Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adapter actually runs on the 5 GHz band? I just talked to a guy at the Microsoft store and he didn't have any information on it. Told me he had no idea. Hate to buy it unless I'm sure it's 5 GHz.
Thanks!

Greetings ZWS18!

If you're referring to the external wireless N network adapter (black with two antennas), it's a yes!

The external wireless N network adapter support dual band, 2,4 GHz and 5 GHz.

I hope this answer your question.
