Connecting more than one xbox controller to laptop

I recently purchase x 2 xbox controllers with wireless adaptor. I have successfully paired one controller but no matter what I do I cannot get the second one to connect. My laptop is a Metabox Alpha-X NH58HP.

I am not a gamer but my son (8) is. He is super keen to play multiplayer games, we have connected the laptop to our TV and just need at least 2 controllers connected.

We do not have an xbox console.

There's a small hole behind the modem or router, you'll need a needle to press it, press for a few seconds until the lights turn off and on again.

I had already performed all of these steps except resetting the adaptor. How do you reset it?

I am confused.... Why the router? I wasn't even using the internet to connect the first controller... Why do I need the internet on to connect the second or to reset the adaptor?

Here are the steps you can follow to connect multiple Xbox controllers to your laptop:

Install the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows on your laptop: The Xbox Wireless Adapter allows you to connect up to 8 Xbox Wireless Controllers to your laptop without the need for a USB cable.

Turn on the Xbox controller: Press and hold the Xbox button on the controller until the controller turns on.

Put the controller in pairing mode: Press and hold the sync button on the top of the controller until the Xbox button begins to flash rapidly.

Connect the controller to your laptop: Go to your laptop's settings, select "Devices," and then select "Bluetooth & other devices." Your laptop should now discover the Xbox controller and you can select "Pair" to connect the controller to your laptop.

Repeat steps 2-4 for each additional controller: You can connect up to 8 Xbox controllers to your laptop.

Launch the game you want to play: You should now be able to use multiple controllers to play games on your laptop.
