Connecting Kinect to a PC or Laptop

I use a real-time, 3D animation and rendering software program called iClone 5
which lets me create my own 3D animated projects. Included with the package comes with the special Mocap Plugin where you can hook up the Kinect and use your own body to control virtual characters in real-time. I was reading a 2011 article from Maximum
PC's website regarding which special programs or drivers I will have to download in order for Windows to recognize the Kinect. In addition to plugging in the AC adaptor included with the standalone package(Kinect only, X-Box 360 not included) and then connecting
it to the available USB port, the first piece of software I need to download is OpenNI, and then the Sensor Kinect driver. The final software that is required to use the Kinect connected to my laptop is called NITE. Once all the required programs is installed
on my system, all I need is to install any software that has the motion capture capability feature and I am good to go.

I do not officially own a X-Box 360 so I do not have plans to use the Kinect for gaming, but I am only going to use it for my 3D animation projects which I am planning to work on that requires the use of motion capture. And since I bought the laptop only
four months ago with Windows 8.1 installed on the system, would I still be able to use Kinect after installing the required driver as well as the two programs mentioned in this posting?
The article can be read here.

  3. NAT problem

The only way I've seen is by connecting to a laptop/PC and sharing the connection.... it's still gonna be a ropey connection though.

Taking a look at the link you posted suggests that you are using illegal software to try and trick the Xbox 360 sensor into thinking it is connected to a console. You cannot do this.

You can check out the Kinect For Windows software at this link:

    www.microsoft.com/.../start.aspx

And a Kinect For Windows Sensor must be purchased as the 360 version will not function on a PC.
