Connecting in Halls

Hi I recently went to Uni and am living in halls. The internet has the usual sign in username etc to connect.

On their website it says adding my XBOX MAC address would allow it to connect, however it dosen't I always get an "internet error". I have also tried adding my laptops MAC address but I still get the same error.

I have also tried:

-Wifi hotspot from my phone and laptop, these gave me an DNS error

-Bridge laptops wifi through ethernet to xbox but that to gets me a DNS error

-Manually inputting all the information for wired and wifi on my xbox, but again more errors.

Please do not refer me to the troubleshooting rubbish, I have spent 10+ hours on this so all im after is some insight into the problem as im clueless.

College Dorm Issues

Sadly they shut off the ethernet ports in all of the residence halls so connecting to xbox live using a wired connection is not possible. Also I have a mac not windows...

 

Connecting to Live with a dongle in Uni Halls

I recently just started at University only to discover that they have been giving false info about connecting to Xbox Live; you can connect but the firewalls and ports are set up so that you can't actually play on any games. I've got many people emailing
them to try and fix it but I doubt they'll actually do anything. It's an ethernet connection so there's no wireless here. I've tried using my iPhone as a wireless hotspot but it's just as bad since I'm on the top floor and the 3G connection is pretty poor.
Would it be worth connecting to a wireless with a dongle and have it go through my laptop or should I find some other kind of solution?

By UNI I would presume you mean University. If this is the case you should contact the internet administrators for help with this as there may be a firewall or something else at their end blocking the connection.
