Connecting digital stereo headphones to Xbox 360 elite

I've bought a new headset for my sons 360 elite and it came with a fibre optical cable that there was no port for on the console . So I then bought an HDMI adaptor that has a socket for the optical cable , only the HDMI end doesn't fit into the console !!
its about 3cm wide and twice as big as the HDMI port I want it to go into , but all the reviews sa it worked perfectly ! Please help because I'm ready for giving up !

  2. Turtle Beach Earforce PX5 Set-up

I would like to see what others know of the best set-up for connecting a Samsung LCD TV / Xbox 360 to the PX5 headphones. I have the Xbox 360 connected to the TV via hdmi - Should I use the annalogue connections from the tv to PX5 (not the TV's Optical
connection) and connect the Optical connection straight from the 360 to the PX5? Please help as I would like to get the full digital sound out of the PX5 - The tv only puts out digital stereo - not digital surround. Please help with suggestions - Thanx.

    Sharkoon X-tatic 5.1 problem

I have a set of Sharkoon X-tatic 5.1 headphones that provided really good surround sound (Dolby Digital) on the XBox 360, but I can't get them to work with the XBox One.

On the 360 I had the headphones' base unit connected directly to the 360 via optical, but when I connect the base unit directly to the back of the XBox One via optical, all I get is white noise through the headphones. I have gone through the XBox's settings and changed the optical output to bitstream and gone through the 5.1, 7.1, etc. options, but none seem to work. When connected to the optical output of the TV the headphones only provide stereo (although I understand that the TV I have doesn't output DD from an external source, only the internal tuner).

    Any suggestions?

Connecting digital stereo headphones to Xbox 360 elite

You have an older Xbox 360 model (pre May 2010), so there will not be a digital optical output built directly into your Xbox 360 that you will need in order to connect your surround stereo headset.

First, check to see if your TV has an digital optical output, often labeled 'S/PDIF'. If your TV has a digital optical output, you can plug the optical cable directly into this jack for game audio. Note: Check your TV manual to see if it supports Dolby Digital.

If your TV does not have a digital audio output, you will need to obtain the Audio Adapter Cable to work alongside the HDMI connection. The HDMI connection will send digital video and digital audio to your TV, while the Xbox 360 Audio Adapter will give you
the optical digital audio jack you need to connect from the Xbox 360 to your headset.

Thankyou . The Xbox isn't connected by an HDMI , it's connected with another lead (with a round end - sorry - I don't know what it's called ) . Will it still work with that ?

Just to add, this is over the optical digital connection using the 360 settings of "Digital Stereo". I am not using surround sound.
