Connected to internet-can't apply update

We have an Xbox 360 - don't use Xbox live, but when my kids try to play a game, it's saying there is a required update. We hit 'yes' to download and get an error, can't connect. Went through all steps in system network settings, shows Network: connected,
Internet: connected, then pops up 'Update Required' won't be able to connect to xbox live until you take the update--click 'yes' to apply. Fails. Gives Status Code: 4180-0000-0080-0300-8007-045D Vicious circle. Please help--we DON'T need xbox live--just
want to play the games we already have that were working fine before!

XBL update currently unavailable

It's kinda like what this guy gets, except I don't even see the Internet connected dashboard information, I can't sign into live, and the status code is different. [View:] When this first started, I was connected
to XBL. I put in NCAA 14, and it had an update. Tried to apply the update and things haven't been the same since. Haven't been able to connect to live on both consoles, one wired the other wireless.

 

Xbox 360 Error Code: 4476-0000-3080-0506-D000-0011? Can't find support!

I set up my Xbox 360 for the first time, reformatted the
hard drive, and connected to the internet. Then it asks me to to
apply a system update and I select "Yes". I was connected to the internet and it said that I
could not connect to Xbox Live until I apply the system update which is
why I selected "Yes". From there it attempts
to apply an update but failed with an error code of:

4476-0000-3080-0506-D000-0011

I found no articles or support for this code, can anyone help?

Now I have been trying to apply the update via USB flash drive. The console shows it extracts the update, then begins to apply it, and then errors out. I am thinking this may be an error with the console and not network related!
