Confusion over mixed msgs from microsoft... xbox one - wont read games but will dvd's

So i purchased a Xbox on last Friday online and it came Tuesday morning. Set it up and everything, looked nice and shiny but oh wait... Wont play no games... Put a Dvd in and that worked fine. Do some research on the web and finally speak to someone from
Microsoft chat and explained that it is happening to all people who have set their Xbox one up and patched it and unfortunately it wont let you play games. He then told me to get a USB stick to download a patch from my pc to transfer it to my xbox then it
should work. Problem was I don't have a USB stick to do this as im pretty **** from
spending £750 on a Xbox One bundle. He then told me to try a couple more things but unfortunately they failed too. So he then said I need to send it back to my supplier for an exchange. Spoke to
the supplier of my Xbox One, they then re-directed me back to Microsoft in which i got in touch with someone on the chat again named Jacquilene.

I spoke to Jacquilene for about 2 and a half hours about this on-going issue. About 2 hours into the conversation after trying a couple more things to get the Xbox One to work, Jacquilene said somethings just come down onto the system saying that there will
be a patch coming out in 2-3 hours tonight. Now by reading the main post here, people are basically saying its an excuse to use by saying this- aka false information. I cant find no information or an announcement to say that there is a patch coming out today.

Ive been with Xbox ever since the first console was released back in 2002 and I have stuck with it ever since. I have spend thousands and thousands of pounds on your company buying your products. Yet I spend another £750 on a Xbox One and it doesn't even work
and to get mixed messages from Microsoft just tops it off. Im sure im not the only one but it would be nice for some questions to be answered instead of making us wait around for a miracle to happen. I've cancelled the return because of the information Jacquilene
has given me, it would be nice if someone official could reply to the post

How do you know it wont read old 360 discs?

They are just DVD's after all.

 

There was an update that came out a couple days ago but nothing scheduled for tonight.

It really depends what the things they told you to do were. There are some others reporting the same issue since that update a couple days and I saw one person post the following as a workaround that seems to resolve it for him:

Put the game disc in;

Perform a power cycle (support.xbox.com/.../power-cycle-console);

Try playing the game again.

Let us know if that works for you or not.

 

Oh dear Jacquilene....

Just tried it and all it says is insert disk, no game comes up. The picture just says insert disk instead of the game : /

Im well surprised that theres no way of restoring it back to brand new, why on earth does it keep the patches?

Just got off from chat and they said theres nothing else they can do but to send it in for a 3 week repairs and they would give me 1 month gold membership. Is that some sort of joke when someone has just spent £750 on something I cant even use and a core
value of 1 month member ships is £6, no use anyway when you got 12 months in the bundle.

Problem is with the customer service Microsoft doesn't go above and beyond. If someone broke my car id get a courtasy car, but not after 3 weeks after spending so much on something which doesnt even work. The customer assistants on chat all sound like robots.
I was that convinced I asked him if he was a computer. Going round in circles all day and ive had it up to here.

I've never ever bought a sony playstation in my life but it looks like im going to have to after this appalling customer service and lack of care.

 

If you only bought the console a week ago, it would be considerably quicker and easier for you to go back to your retailer and get the console exchanged for a new one. This is definitely worth you looking into.
