Confusion about XBoxOne headset vs. controller compatibility

Hi,

I recently acquired an XBoxOne. I had a 360 with a headset but I know I can't use it with my Xbox One so I decided to buy an Xbox One compatible headset.

What confuses me is that most headsets I am looking at (Hama Insomnia Ice, Turtle Beach - Ear Force Recon 50X - yes, I am in the sub $50 range) talk about only having a 2.5mm jack to connect to the XBoxOne controller; my problem is that none of my controllers
have a 2.5mm jack next to the standard Microsoft connector.

Does this mean I *have* to buy the connector and a headset?

Thanks for posting, by design the Xbox One Controller is meant to output Xbox One Audio only. For more information about the Xbox One controller and it's 3.5mm jack check out this article:

Turtle Beach / XboxOne question....

About to pick up an XboxOne and I'm starting to get the impression that an older (Turtle Beach X4's) headset is not going to be compatible with the XboxOne controller hook ups? It's a wireless headset (and for the record has lasted me years and years) but
there is the puck connection from the controller to the headset and that's where I think the problem lies.... The input type on the new XboxOne controller looks to different than that of the 360 controller. My question is, do they make some sort of adapter
that can be used w/ the XboxOne controller?

Maybe those of you who already have an XboxOne can shed a little light on the matter

The two headsets that you have listed above have 3.5mm jacks on them that will connect to all Xbox One controllers that have the 3.5mm jack. If you have an earlier level controller without the 3.5mm jack port then you will require the headset adapter or
chatpad below.

The headset you linked to below includes the required headset adapter to allow it to be connected to all controllers.

On a side note my controller has a 3.5mm port on it but I will still use the headset adapter for the convenience of volume controls and microphone mute facility it offers without needing to use the console menus.

 

The Xbox One Stereo headset has a 3.5mm jack and included in the box is a chat adapter for volume controls.
